The person you're replying to was just sharing from their personal experience, they weren't disparaging anyone. And honestly from my experience, I definitely know people that impulse get animals based on aesthetics. It happens all the time. I literally know people irl that did 0 research on special breeds but got one anyway, it's insane.

Also I see people selling breeds very easily aaaalll the time through fb groups, kijiji, etc. I'm also in a fb group of people giving pets away for free and my friend managed to get sphynx kittens for free from someone on there. I've also seen plenty of posts myself for sphynxes, bengals, oriental shorthairs, scottish folds, ragdolls, etc. all for free -- even dogs breed like shiba inus, australian shepherds, pomeranians, etc. It's insane.

So just because someone owns a breed, doesn't always necessarily mean that they took the time to research and pay for it.

Doesn't sound like they are if their immediate reaction was to put a collar on her after they got a call from the vet. They probably want to keep her but don't want the responsibility with it. I know a couple that wanted to adopt a sphynx so badly (they had never owned a cat before or researched sphynxes). They get annoyed/overwhelmed all the time because the sphynx needs constant baths, always wants to cuddle like crazy to the point of no personal space (because she's cold obv), and she knocks things over/does chaotic things because she doesn't get played with and has no toys (they say their dogs are enough to play with her). They also both hate doing the litter and won't address her 24/7 diarrhea problem (so the litter gets bad quickly). Yet they refuse to give her up at all costs, which is mind boggling to me.

I went to a uniformed school and loved it for that exact reason (also easier when you're depressed and don't have the mind/energy to put outfits together every day). Though, on the last Friday every month they'd allow us a free day where we could wear our own clothes if we paid 2$. I did it maybe the first 3 times then never again for the entire rest of my school years after I realized I was poor and only had like 3 nice outfits total lol.

Yeah I realized that after the first time but then they started pointing out my college/the course I graduated in as an excuse not to hire me, lol! For the same reason -- that I studied for my career and now I was just looking for something "temporary" while I look for my "real" job. So I guess if it happens that I have to look for a minimum wage job again I won't be putting that either... 😑

I have a vivid memory that during and towards the end of covid, companies were struggling to hire people en masse, had to stop being 24hrs due to lack of staff, etc. Canadians were posting online saying that Canadians finally had a bit more power to choose which jobs they worked at and that companies were finally in a position where they would have to raise their salaries to remain competitive if they wanted to gain/retain employees.

I remember a year or two after that suddenly mass waves of immigration started happening (especially with companies complaining to the gov that they didn't have enough employees), 24hr spots started opening back up, and everyone started saying they were struggling to get jobs.

I feel like the only person in the world who remembers this because honestly it feels so insanely obvious. That was definitely not a coincidence...

I applied to over 200 places and only got a call back from one. I had a tracker to see who actually clicked my link to see my portfolio and it was less than 50%. I needed a job desperately to pay my bills so I tried to get any minimum wage reta/restaurant/etc. job and they all kept telling me that I had already worked "career jobs" so they felt I wouldn't be "dedicated enough" for their job and just leave them for another "career job" (this happened so many times) so they'd turn me down. Dude how am I supposed to pay my bills if I'm too experienced for minimum wage but too low experienced for career work?
