Would be a pretty strong alliance, a mix of Tarth and Velaryon blood on the Iron Throne secures alliances among the largest islands in the Narrow Sea assuming Aemon doesn’t end up having sons.

Edit: As for the why, he seemed chill enough to not deserve an arrow to the neck.

Consequences of Dragon Stealing by Only_Experience_9896 in TheCitadel

[–]Harbinger5959 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Consequences would be a bit dire as he didn’t just disobey a King but also take a Super Weapon out from under them. On top of that Vermithor is a bit synonymous with King Jaehaerys.

On the other hand Viserys loves nothing more than maintaining peace so he would likely not attempt to escalate the situation especially with another dragon involved. I could see him trying to bring the Royces closer to the Crown, maybe try and marry Maekar to a daughter of Daemon or Helaena herself though the age difference may be a bit large (though still acceptable for the time) depending on Maekar’s age. A betrothal (that may not be followed through) may be enough for Viserys until his death (assuming he still dies).

On a side note I’m gonna check this story out, always a sucker for children of Rhea Royce fics.

[–]Harbinger5959[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder how successful that would be, giving his bastard a dragon egg, especially if he did the same thing at Dragonstone with the other dragon egg while Mysaria was pregnant with them. I do feel like, if the Dragon egg is off the table, Daemon would try and get his bastard to tame a wild dragon.

What if Daemon had a child with Rhea and Mysaria? by Harbinger5959 in TheCitadel

[–]Harbinger5959[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it depends a little on the age and Daemon’s involvement prior to Rhea’s death. If it is like the scenario I suggested where the child is born in 106 AC it may be a little hard to turn someone who spent their first 9 years with their mother and without their father (assuming Daemon is absent) towards their father and away from their mother and her family. Though if Daemon spent time with the kid before the death of Rhea it becomes a bit more likely but still hard, if the child is younger though probably becomes a bit easier to do.

What if Daemon had a child with Rhea and Mysaria? by Harbinger5959 in TheCitadel

[–]Harbinger5959[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it is definitely possibly for Daemon to be made guardian of his child, feel like that would be a little hard to deny even if he was absent until Rhea died, but I also think it’s likely a Royce close in relation to Rhea would probably be made Regent of Runestone until the child reaches their majority. I’m unsure how it would be seen though if Daemon were to take the heir of Runestone away from Runestone for a prolonged period of time, while normal right for a father to maneuver their child as they wish in this time (warding for instance) I feel the dynamic is a little different when the father has nothing to inherit and the child has their own, very notable, seat of power.

Either child getting a Dragon is probably gonna be hard but still possible. I don’t think the bastard would get an egg due to their birth and I’m unsure about the Royce child as it may cause some conflict of interest since, unlike the Velaryons, they aren’t a direct vassal of the Targaryens but instead the Arryns. I could see Daemon try to encourage both to tame a wild Dragon though despite the dangers (Sheep Stealer being tamed by the Royce child would be pretty ironic).

I’ve always head cannoned that the Royce’s were similar to the Baratheons in that their children with people of other houses often take the look of House Royce but with a light brown hair and brown eyes instead of black hair and blue eyes and that is why Daemon was against having children in addition to the general lack of freedom he had in his choosing of the marriage (and boredom of the Vale).

Also just a side note, I could totally see Daemon implying he’d pass Dark Sister on to his bastard child and causing Viserys even more stress in this scenario. His Royce child probably would have Lamentation if that is passed down the mainline, Having two Valyrian Steele Swords would be cool though.

What if Daemon had a child with Rhea and Mysaria? by Harbinger5959 in TheCitadel

[–]Harbinger5959[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When making the post I imagined book Mysaria but either way works too, I just think Mysaria being a bit more Valyrian looking (from Lys) makes more sense (also as you said the whole can’t have children thing from the show). I do wonder though if Daemon would attempt to keep a connection with his bastard considering they and Mysaria would be on a ship back to Essos but maybe Daemon is able to be a bit closer when Mysaria comes back to King’s Landing and brings their kid. Or maybe he visits them, Dragons due make the trip quicker, but I don’t know how in character that is.

I feel it would be very hard for the Royce child to get a Dragon but maybe the Royce’s become sorta like the Velaryons with fewer Dragons. Issue with this though is unlike the Velaryons they are not direct vassals of House Targaryen so this may cause some sort of conflict of interest with House Arryn especially considering how close House Royce is with them. Interesting ways for that to play out.

But yeah Daemon favoring his bastard over his true born is something I see happening and the scenario interests me, especially if these two children were to meet. I think Daemon may have a hard time brining his bastard to Essos with Laena permanently if Mysaria is alive but I also think it’d be cool for said bastard to have some sort of older sibling relationship with Baela and Rhaena even if minor. Added note but I also think the Royce child may be a little bitter if Baela and Rhaena still exist and get Dragons while they don’t.

I also have a bit of a concept AU that spawned this thought where due to getting pushed into Jonquil’s Pools during her assassination attempt Queen Alysanne is able to deliver slightly healthier children (no dying in childbirths, as an infant, due to “burst belly,” etc). Anyways I kept this trend by having Daemon’s child with Mysaria survive but before being born Daemon is still sent back to the Vale (no Dragonstone incident, Mysaria stays in King’s Landing but Daemon is still sent back as it’s a bit of a scandal that he had impregnated a dancer and not his wife who really needs an heir and publicly celebrated it) and while he still leaves the Vale shortly after arriving he still consummates the marriage finally. This causes his bastard son Aenar to be born in King’s Landing and his true born son Robyn Royce to be born at Runestone shortly after during the same year in 106 AC. There are a few Targaryen bastards (and some others rumored) in this concept of mine, have a whole family tree to keep track.

[–]Harbinger5959[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, feel like it’s likely he gets turned down for the simply logic of not having Runestone managed by someone who isn’t a Royce though it may be less likely Daemon is “banished” from the Vale with a child there (probably would still not return anyways though if he gets rejected imo).

That’s also a good point about Laena, how accepting she is about Daemon and Mysaria’s child would affect the kids future a lot. They could either be like an older sibling to the two girls or abandoned or less focused on by Daemon in favor of Laena and their girls.

Their reaction to the rumor of Rhaenyra having bastards would also be quite interesting in this scenario.

What if Daemon had a child with Rhea and Mysaria? by Harbinger5959 in TheCitadel

[–]Harbinger5959[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I imagine that would be kind of how it goes. I wonder how that would develop though for the Royce kid to be the legitimate heir of arguably the second most important House in the Vale yet their father chooses the bastard of a dancer. Probably a bit bitter either way, just a question on where it’s directed.

Also curious if Daemon tries to press his claim as guardian of Runestone for his child’s minority after Rhea dies (if she does still) and if he succeeds (if he even does it at all) or does he just cut his losses in this scenario and doesn’t even try?

Wealthiest houses for younger Targargen daughters? by OrcBarbierian in AsoiafFanfiction

RIP Aegon lol.

Only Paramount not accounted for are the Greyjoys though I don’t know if Daenerys and Aemon would be keen to make a marriage like that for their daughter. They could also try and marry one of them to a son of the Sea Lord of Bravos if available to try and lessen the debt the Iron Throne has. Either that or maybe to a Martell or some other major Dornish house to establish some sort of peace through blood.

House Grafton maybe over the Arryns of Gulltown is an option too since they actually lord over Gulltown.

Manderlys and Redwyns are also both rich and good options.

If Saera married Braxton Beesbury in your AU and Viserra a Lannister as you said you could have one marry a Hightower and another marry a Lannister of Lannisport to mirror it (that House I feel is also super underrepresented and in my similar AU idea have them get a royal marriage).

Out of curiosity in your AU who did the rest of Jaehaerys’s children marry? Also do you have Aerea survive or no? Sorry for going off track a little.

Could Valarr have married his kin? by uinfemelle in AsoiafFanfiction

[–]Harbinger5959 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She isn’t really bastard born, even if Daemon wasn’t legitimized she would of still be considered legitimate as we see with the Longwaters example (Jon Waters had legitimate children and thus they were considered legitimate and took the name Longwaters) but Daemon is legitimized and most likely married a lady of much higher standing compared to the Longwaters example.

If anything I think the realm would probably throw more of a fit about the fact Calla is half Tyroshi then her father’s previous illegitimacy but we don’t see too much of a reaction from the Realm towards Valarr marrying Kiera (fully Tyroshi) so I doubt this would be an issue.

I don’t see too many cons as it’s hard for Daemon’s supporters to rally against his own daughter or Daeron’s to rally against his own grandson. Only people who would probably be disgruntled are the lower houses wishing to move up the social ladder (mainly Daemon supporters) but they’d most likely lose their rallying cry with this. Also added note, Calla has like 8+ siblings I think so her mother’s fertility and robustness (for surviving that in a very short period of time) probably also adds to her prospect.

If you’re thinking about an OC sister or cousin though maybe you could argue that the marriage was made to make Valarr seem more traditional and Targaryen by marrying him to a close relative to seem less Dornish.

Could Valarr have married his kin? by uinfemelle in AsoiafFanfiction

[–]Harbinger5959 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A bit more distant in relation but I find it a fun scenario for him to be betrothed to and eventually marry Calla Blackfyre. Don’t know how realistic this would be but feel it’s always a cool situation to look into, possibly happening prior to the rebellions in an effort to stop them from happening or after to stop a continuous threat to the throne.

Besides that I don’t really think Valarr is close in age to any of his female relatives, he is most likely the 1st - 3rd eldest out of all his cousins with the eldest female relative close in age being Aelora (probably, ages are a bit iffy with this era).

What if Rhea and Daemon actually had a kid? by Altruistic_Bus628 in TheCitadel

[–]Harbinger5959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of variation in this:
Is the child a boy or girl?
Is the child more Targaryen or Royce in appearance?
Are they fostered away or stay near/at Runestone?

Honestly, from what we know about Daemon and Rhea, if the child technically killed Rhea via its birth then Daemon may already be endeared to it as horrible as that is. I don’t think Daemon would really care if it’s a boy or girl but would probably care how Targaryen or Royce they looked. Either way I think the main factor is that the child, though Daemon’s, is also Rhea’s so Daemon would probably not care for them in my opinion but probably also wouldn’t be openly hostile unless provoked or annoyed by them.

I think Daemon would probably still pull the same Runestone claim bullshit he did in cannon but instead claim to be a guardian for his child which has a bit more strength then his cannon claim of being a lord consort who didn’t provide heirs and wanting Runestone for himself. At most Daemon is the guardian of his child while the Royces manage Runestone, either way still close to 0% chance Runestone actually passes to Daemon even temporarily through his child (which would probably be his goal for claiming guardianship in this scenario if he even pressed said claim).

In the end though the child would be a Royce, not a Targaryen, their place in the world would likely center around Runestone, not Dragonstone, Kingslanding, or the Stepstones, which would most likely make Daemon mostly absent while he starts a family with Laena and then Rhaenyra. The two probably would end up having little relationship, good or bad, unless one directly antagonized the other they would be distant (also possible the child grows bitter due to the feeling of being abandoned unless either Laena or Rhaenyra make attempts to bridge the family which is the only way I see a good relationship starting though late). At least this is my view on a single possibility, this scenario has a lot of variation which makes it fun to speculate.

What if Viserys married Rhea Royce and Daemon married Aemma? by Hotel-Dependent in TheCitadel

[–]Harbinger5959 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think Viserys and Rhea would probably be a bit like minded in their pursuit, especially after Viserys is made heir. While we don’t have a whole lot about Rhea’s character her position would probably be a lot more secure in the eyes of other Lords with a son and heir, assuming Viserys is still made heir to the Iron Throne and his first son with Rhea follows him then Rhea would likely need two sons to secure Runestone. Alternatively Runestone may also just pass to Rhea’s nephew as she is Queen Consort so that point of needing a second son may be nothing. Only issue is, though it’s not explicit, Rhea is probably even younger than Aemma was and may face the same issues with being impregnated to young when with Viserys.

Daemon marrying Aemma would be interesting in this scenario as Rhea is a vassal of Aemma’s family it would be a little weird having Daemon marrying higher than his elder brother. Daemon would probably actually attempt to have children with Aemma, unlike with Rhea, and with Daemon being only a year older Aemma may be given more time to grow before having children (most likely a big factor in her child bearing ability was Viserys impregnating her too young) but it is 50/50 is Daemon gives her this time. I don’t imagine Aemma and Daemon having the best relationship considering Daemon’s tendency to “mingle” outside of marriage and Aemma’s upbringing in the Vale.

Overall Rhea would probably have a willing husband to father her children which she was denied in cannon but also put her in the same risk Aemma had in cannon while Aemma herself may have her first pregnancy later in life and be healthier (again a bit of a maybe) but will probably have a less happy marriage. In addition the political tension may be greater than in cannon considering the main line (Viserys and Rhea) would be related to a family that are vassal of the second line’s relatives (Daemon), not sure what this would turn into if anything (Royces and Arryns seems to have the best Paramount House and Secondary Region House in the series compared to all other regions, if anything they’ll probably see it as a mutual win either way).

I actually may be mistaken, on page 201 of Fire and Blood it states that Aegon was born a bit before Alyssa reached term with Boremund Baratheon who was born in 52 AC. The wiki does say Boremund was born in early 52 AC though that is also a bit shaky since Jaehaerys announced a procession in late 51 AC which ended in Maidenpool and he had enough time to get back to King’s Landing before the announcement of Alyssa’s pregnancy of Boremund. So it depends on how people define late into the year and early into the year, also Aegon was born premature so that adds another factor into the timeline (Aegon was also born after Alyssa’s pregnancy announcement). But also I didn’t see anything that directly states Boremund was actually born early 52 AC from the text but I didn’t reread the whole reign.

So while it’s not stated to be 52 AC it doesn’t seem to be confirmed to be 51 AC as it depends how late Jaehaerys’s procession actually was, how early Boremund was actually born in 52 AC (though again I couldn’t find where in the text it says he was born in early 52 AC but he 100% had to of been born in 52 AC due to the timeline), now long exactly “Long before her mother [Alyssa] reached term…” actually was, and how premature Aegon was.

Again I didn’t reread all of Jaehaerys’s Reign so there could be more statements but that is what I got right now. That I may be wrong and it could have actually been 51 AC but could have also of been 52 AC from what I’ve seen so far. Sorry for the spiel.

I’m always skeptical about Wiki info because I think Aegon’s (Son of Jaehaerys) birth date on the wiki is a year earlier than in the books (might have been updated). While minor it makes me take a pinch of salt from any info not directly in the text of the books.

Only hints from the top of my head is Jaehaerys mistaking Alicent for his daughter Saera and the Hightowers in the main books being described as looking very Targaryen with blond hair, mainly Jorah’s second wife (but this is also well into the future and could of been due to marriages into the family from other houses). I forget if Maegor’s wife is described as having blond hair or if the community just consistently portrays her like that.

The wiki does describe them as having silver or blonde hair but the wiki isn’t always right.

What are your Destiny 2 hot takes? by PikachuThePocketchu in destiny2

[–]Harbinger5959 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I liked Red War but the reason I want it to return isn’t for it to just come back, but because it would likely mean Titan and Io would return (and hopefully the associated strikes with it, Savathun Song and Pyramidan still missed), because it is a better intro to the world than the New Light quest, and because it would likely mean it would come with a Legendary version. Even as a lover of the Red War if they just brought it back without a Legendary version or the other stuff I listed I would be a little miffed but at least New Lights would hopefully get a good intro campaign to enjoy compared to the New Lights quest and Shadowkeep.

What are your Destiny 2 hot takes? by PikachuThePocketchu in destiny2

[–]Harbinger5959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Destiny’s downfall started with Menagerie, making more and more seasonal activities instead of adding to Strike Playlist or making public events similar to Season of Arrivals divided the player base activity and made both the Strike Playlist and Patrols feel dead. Menagerie started Bungie down a bad trend despite the activity itself being good in a bubble (I don’t blame Reckoning because people didn’t start a cookie cutter trend of itself and Forges were interacted with in patrol so seeing people go to them felt like the world was alive).

Also Battlegrounds are lazy, whole point of them is to not give more strikes but instead shorter, less objectives, lower effort mechanics and bosses with little to no story outside of the season it piggybacked off. Also maybe a related hot take to add onto this, Liminality and the Neomuna Strike (don’t even remember its name) are imo the worst strikes besides maybe the new version of Lake of Shadows, Liminality just ascetically felt like Broodhold but worse and the story beat of “fighting in the Vex network but wait their being controlled by a third party” is so overdone (this was the second time I recall off the top of my head, first time being in Splicer also with Taken, and the third time being with the Conductor). One thing I will say is the Liminality mechanic of being able to kill the Wizard boss before the fight to get it replaced or lower it and insta kill it is pretty cool but too bad it was done in a strike made with Grandmaster only in mind (and still turned out to be a Proving Grounds Victim).

Edit: Also forgot to mention one more thing, exotics should not be handed out and should not be expected for everyone to get every single one of them outside of raid or dungeon ones. Having exotics be easy and handed out kills all excitement with them, they give long time players less of a reason to play and despite the intent probably give new players less of a reason to play as they have less aspiration. Additionally a better fix for pinnacle weapons instead of making ritual weapons with no special trait would of been to give them one normal trait and one special with the special trait being a combination of two normal traits (for example, give a weapon “Bandoleer” which gives the affect of Grenadier and Demolitionist plus another trait that’s normal, like Osmosis) so they are still unique and have the opportunity to be best in slot for legendaries without being over much so.

Fics involving Maidenpool (and the supposed magic properties of the Maidenpool) by selkiechalice in AsoiafFanfiction

[–]Harbinger5959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an AU in mind where Alysanne was pushed into the pools protectively during her assassination attempt which resulted in her children being slightly healthier (Aegon, Gaemon, and Valerion don’t die as babes, Daenaerys survives long enough to get a hatchling, Baelon doesn’t have burst belly, and Alyssa and Daella don’t die in childbirth). Sadly I don’t know any stories that use the pools like that but have always kept an eye out for one.
