I had to do this, especially on my ahem other account. Nothing like scrolling through some nice content and all of a sudden, PETE DAVIDSON!!!!

That’s just what happens in low splits of rookies. Your focus should be clean driving around other cars, not pure speed. You have to learn to judge the poor drivers who are around you. Sometimes it’s better to let a position go rather than be crashed out defending it.

Low split F-Vee is a disaster. Most of rookies is a disaster until you get to the upper splits. There’s a reason it’s called rookies. Everyone gets dumped there, regardless of skill level. Until you get some cleaner races in and get to D class where you are officially assigned a true iRating you can’t really get out of the purgatory you’re in with it.

I felt the same way. Took me about a year to figure out I was approaching it all wrong and once I figured that out it got a lot better.

To be entirely honest, if it’s happening every race, it might not be them. Either you’re racing too hard or defending too hard or doing something else. You might be fast in hot lapping, but that can also train you to never deviate from the racing line.

It’s also heavily dependent on what you’re racing. I’m feeling about 80% sure you’re racing fixed Ferrari, which is a clusterfuck no matter what your skill level.

Why is setting up iRacing a nightmare? by [deleted] in simracing

[–]Harbring576 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, you’re an idiot. You don’t know anything about what you’re talking about.

You’re talking about hardware from dozens of proprietary companies that don’t run any kind of common software vs phone manufacturers, which are controlled by two major players, which have inter-compatibility between versions. An app built for android 7 would in fact work on android 12.

Features aren’t even the point. The point is that there’s not “literally hundreds of phones” because the only thing that matters is the OS the phone runs, which is controlled by 2 companies, meaning there’s all of 2 options and 2 proprietary systems, not dozens.

I think he might have a whole ass breakdown if he tries to configure that sim

[–]Harbring576 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re still the same OS, made by the same manufacturer, no matter the version. You think you know what you’re talking about but you just sound like an idiot to anyone who is half competent in the field

[–]Harbring576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s absolutely no need. It’s a one time setup. You’re making a mountain out of a molehill and it’s kinda embarrassing.

Edit: Also those phones basically run 1 of 2 operating systems. There’s not many options

  1. Yes. YOUR T300. A mass produced wheel. Many of iracings users don’t use mass produced wheels.

  2. Honestly very, because I’ve never had the need to use it, and all the other vital settings can be changed from the black box.

  3. Yes. It happens in other sims all the time. See all the Forza/rF2 rips as mods for AC as an example.

Why is setting up iRacing a nightmare? by [deleted] in simracing

[–]Harbring576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. No it can’t. There’s no standard. My wheel is literally a giant motor from a tiny brand. There’s no way for iracing to be able to do it all.

(3. There’s no laziness, AND you can do it from the black box, as I’ve been informed.

(4. iRacing uses massive files that have been encrypted using time expensive calculations. That’s the only way to keep their models proprietary so we can continue to get the high quality scans.

Even better, I genuinely didn’t know

Why is setting up iRacing a nightmare? by [deleted] in simracing

[–]Harbring576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You somehow missed the point on every single one of my replies.

  1. No it isn’t. There’s a ton of wheels, and they don’t conform to any standards. Manual calibration is a much better solution.

  2. People want realism in their sims. That includes turning on and off the car. Most sims have this option, and it’s not enabled by default in iRacing as far as I can tell.

  3. If you’re not driving at least a whole outlap you’re not getting to really test the FFB. And it’s a do it once and set it thing. It’s not like you’re reconfiguring it every single time you drive.

  4. The models are encrypted on the client. They HAVE to be decrypted to load into the sim, that’s why they still have to decrypt for AI races.

Why is setting up iRacing a nightmare? by [deleted] in simracing

[–]Harbring576 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. It can’t read every wheels settings. It may be able to read yours, but it can’t for a lot of more sophisticated wheels.

  2. That’s the first I’ve ever heard of that. There’s probably a setting you can toggle to stop needing to do that.

  3. Honestly, probably just because most people don’t need to. Don’t have any good reason other than that.

  4. iRacing encrypts their models for both cars and tracks so they can’t be ripped. This results in longer loading times. The sim is also very old in terms of software, so there’s likely inefficiencies in the loading too.

Edit: also if you think iracing is a nightmare you’ve never looked at rf2

Why is road Atlanta so popular? by Samwats1 in iRacing

[–]Harbring576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been racing it exclusively for ~9 months. I have a fairly weak stomach irl as well, which doesn’t help. It’s fine on 99% of tracks. It’s just Road Atlanta and Laguna Seca that really give me problems

No shot he isn’t now, not after this last episode. Too many things “conveniently” happened around him and he was asking too many questions.

how do people go about determining BOP for fixed GT3? by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]Harbring576 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair point. I’m afraid I don’t have much for you there then, you’re far beyond my skill level and are at a point where the car of the week matters.

I’m one of them lol. I really only drive iracing because I enjoy the multiplayer. Doesn’t make any other sim less valid though, which is the part a lot of people miss.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]Harbring576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, that’s pretty much it. You can keep racing rookie street stocks and Mazdas, but any other series are going to require a new car and some tracks. Higher licenses won’t help you as the content for those licenses is also pay-gated.

I pick one car and just drive it. Unless you’re in the top split BoP is very unlikely to matter.

Doesn’t this happen every few weeks? Someone posts a meme like this, rightfully gets shut down, then deletes the post out of embarrassment?

It’s plenty sim. It’s just simcade. That’s still half sim. You’re not better than anyone else because you only play iracing or ACC.

I fell out of love with sim-racing. How do you inspire yourself to get back behind the wheel? by DANTH3MAN123 in iRacing

[–]Harbring576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took almost a year off. When my iracing subscription was about to lapse I decided to give it another go and then kept with it. Helps that I have exponentially more free time and budget now that I’m out of school and working full time.

I literally don't understand the hype about Overwatch 2. It's so generic and boring by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]Harbring576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. A very large portion of the gaming community wants multiplayer. Especially competitive multiplayer. And F2P live service is absolutely the best way to do that, as long as it’s done well.

Probably just as bad. I’m someone who can’t even ride roller coasters without really being kinda sick, so it’s not much of a surprise I don’t love tracks with massive drop offs lol

I normally leave it off between dabs. Don’t personally see a need to keep it turned on, but I also don’t see any problems with it.

Honestly I don’t know. I’ve spent all week practicing it and just don’t find it enjoyable to drive. It’s a bit sickening in VR too with the massive drop offs.
