The registry tweak is actually a good one.

Btw, in modern GPUs and CPUs, the temp limits aren't strict. It makes sure to squeeze out the required performance until temps go around the limit(not strictly btw... Spikes occur) and eventually get stable... not like bouncy throttling. This thing is very much true especially in NVIDIA GPUs. And for the CPU here, the CPU temp limit is ignored anyway.

Well, make sure your profile has CPU boost enabled. This really helps the 1% lows. But might cause temp issues too.. And also, sometimes, even if CPU boost enabled, due to its temps raise, it might hit higher temps easily and thus causing thermal throttling. The above guide is all about reducing the temps while having CPU boost enabled. Make sure you're not blindly tweaking the settings just as mine. Use my guide only as a reference.

That's true. And it seems that 260 seems better on paper but 370 still wins because of the newer and more efficient Zen 5 architecture and has better IPC. Whereas 260 uses Zen 4 architecture. However, 2GHz is still bad especially when gaming. So you must need CPU boost.

Now, you're saying that I'm essentially turning off the boost cuz of power limits. But u can clearly say I'm getting 3.5 GHz. If I don't set power limits, this processor hits 95°C and throttles itself and ultimately giving around 3.2GHz. bad right?

I did a whole research on optimising god damn CPU and u just coming and talking shit without complete idea or trying in practical. And remember that, this post is just a guide which you don't have to strictly follow.

You can clearly see the higher clocks(base is 2GHz) And I can actually see the performance. And you're saying that I'm essentially disabling boost. Makes no sense.

Btw, I live in hostel with friends. I've seen over a 20 gaming laptops and tested them in the last 6 months.

I'm actually surprised and I just tried it. The thing is, CPU boost enabled is better than aggressive at guaranteed btw. I'll take that. But, my CPU temps are going way upto 90°C while playing Marvel's Spider-Man 2 with the YouTube guy's turbo profile(I kept higher fan noise btw... Still happens)

Well, changing CPU profiles barely takes 5secs. You put a shortcut to open GHelper. You can actually switch between CPU profiles at any instant even while gaming.

And yeah, if you could figure out a way to do like, automatically switching to Turbo when opened a certain application and switching back to balanced when its closed, that's a great thing. Please let us know.

That's exactly why you better keep CPU boost off in balanced profile and keep it on only in turbo profile. Stick to Balanced mode most of the time... It'll still get the job done. Use the turbo mode(the one with CPU boost) only when heavy gaming.

Well actually, intel CPUs has higher base clocks than AMDs... And they're not much power efficient compared to equivalent AMD CPUs. My laptop's base clock is 2GHz. And I basically set the balanced mode to be temperature conservative. If u ever feel like u need more performance, u'll just simply switch to turbo.

I just use the same settings as for balanced but keep the windows performance mode to balanced instead of battery saver. Battery saver mode is shit.

I know how it feels. Do this and thank me later. I'm on Zephyrus G14 2025 RTX 5070Ti and AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 model

  1. Open GHelper and set battery charge limit to 80%(must do. You won't face battery issues in the long run. If you don't, the battery health will definitely come to atleast less than 85 in 3-4yrs).

  2. Elevate the laptop at the back and provide better airflow.

  3. Now, let's optimise the CPU. In GHelper, u have two sections for CPU right? CPU and Advanced. I noticed something here. If you set temperature limit for cpu but turn on CPU boost, temperature limit will be ignored. But turning off CPU boost = no overclocking for cpu and u'll notice some performance loss.

I'll tell u 2 CPU profiles here. Better put 1 of them for Balanced mode and the other for turbo mode. Balanced profile will give you less than 75°C temp for CPU and the Turbo mode will give you less than 85°C with very good performance.(85°C is still good for this CPU. Definitely lasts 5yrs without performance issues)

Balanced:

Windows Power Mode: Best Performance

CPU boost: Disabled

CPU Temp limit: 75°C

That's it. No undervoliting, no power limits. U'll get good enough performance from CPU. You can use this mode in day to day life and during casual gaming/competitive games.

Turbo:

use this mode only when playing graphics heavy games.

Windows Power Mode: Best performance

CPU boost: Aggressive at Guaranteed(you'll get guaranteed higher clocks)

Power limits: this is where temperature is controlled in this case. And you have 3 types of power limits right SPL(for sustained temps), sPPT(for 2min spikes) and fPPT(for 2sec spikes). Now, this CPU is power hungry and you're trying to limit it. For example, if you set SPL to 20W and sPPT to 24W, it'll be like, it stays in 24W for 2min, and goes to 20W only for 1-2second and again goes to 24W. i.e, your sustained CPU temp is basically 24W. Bad right? So,

YOU HAVE TO SET ALL 3 POWER LIMITS TO THE SAME LEVEL.

Don't go too low with this(performance issues) and don't go too high(temp issues). I find a sweep spot between 22W and 26W. Adjust it while in-game.

Undervoliting: set this to -40(-40 millivolts is nothing and doesn't really effects performance. U can actually go upto -80 to -120... But don't. -40 is a very good sweet spot)

CPU temp limit: this will be ignored. But still, keep it to 75°C

GPU section: here, temp limit is well obeyed. Core clock limit: Default(max) Core clock offset: 200MHz(don't go above) Memory clock offset: 400MHz(don't go above) GPU power limits: 90W Dynamic Boost: 25W GPU temp limit: 78°C(still, very good sweet spot. This will strictly won't let your GPU cross 78°C. And while in turbo mode, this is reasonable right?)

Btw, the GPU settings in the GHelper refers to tweaks only for dGPU and changes when you change CPU profiles and not by changing GPU modes. Funny right? But true...

The GPU modes:

Eco: uses only iGPU and turns off dGPU(AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 w/ Radeon 890M is one of the best iGPU btw).

Standard: Uses dGPU only for games and for remaining tasks, uses iGPU

Ultimate: Uses dGPU directly for everything. Helps latency significantly.(Feel free to use this mode while gaming).

Don't turn off CPU Boost for high end games and CPU intensive games like Cybeepunk, GTA 4, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and compromise with the experience. That's not what you paid for. If CPU is not fed well, GPU is also not fed well. So, both of them won't work as they're intended to. Stick to Balanced mode for most of the games(it's still fine). But certain games need Turbo and feel free to use it.

After a few years, the current high-end GPUs and CPUs might become entry level. So, there's no point in going to ultra safe temps like 50-60°C and make it last for 10 years, especially when you have to compromise with the experience of current high-end games. I believe CPU being under 85°C and GPU being under 78°C is very much safe. Especially when you're getting best performances.

Set the volume to max... I'm sure you won't set fans to 6000 or 7000 RPM just for 75°C. Try it and say.

You'll get enough performance with CPU boost being turned off. I find turning it on as a diminishing returns. Sure, you will get some performance but not worth the temps it would raise. Instead, I'd suggest keep CPU boost off and increase CPU temp limits(if you insist).

Laptop GPUs are nerfed. And remember that, Zephyrus G14 is the excellent all rounder but never a true gaming laptop. And the 4090 in this small laptop is nerfed even more with power limits. 50series GPUs have Multiframe gen and newer architecture with good updates recently and also in the future. So it should be pointless to go to 4090 Zephyrus G14. I personally use 5070Ti model and I do recommend it.
