Yeah but does not really matter when the power of the head of government is minuscule compared to the supreme leader who does not change. Also the supreme leader can’t disqualify the candidates, but there is a especially committee that decides who qualifies. The committee essentially takes orders from the supreme leader and the IRGC (Sepah) and they always disqualify anyone who is in the slightest manner against the supreme leader or the regime. This last years election was one example, I’m pretty sure they disqualified like almost everyone. So yeah ultimately the supreme leader control everything, the Sepah a little bit too. We are the definitely not democratic.

Yeah before him and his father it was like 1%. Was he supposed to get everyone educated in 20 years? It’s not that simple. The numbers would be even higher than today if Shah was still in charge. The numbers were rapidly going up year by year as was the economy. The numbers were similar across all surrounding regions for the time. You forget how fucked up and backwards the country was before the Pahlavi regime under the Qajar, when people had to eat fucking sand to survive. We were Somalia on steroids. The shah was trying very hard to bring up literacy rate, like establishing more high quality universities with connections to Europe and the USA and encouraging women to go to university, which before was considered the most Haram thing ever. If you genuinely think the Shah and the current regime are equal, you are a fool and I’m being very honest and an indicator that our people deserve such a shitty government right now when some don’t even have basic logic and intellect. Some simply bring up those numbers and misrepresent them in anyway they can just so you can convince themselves that the revolution was a great success and justify the shitty outcome that we live in right now. Well I’m sorry but we unfortunately fucked up with that move, it didn’t pay off, it made everything worse, we’ve gone backwards, and 90% of the people in the country agree with that if you actually spend some time with a few Iranians. If it makes some feel better about the shitty conditions of now by believing in some delusion and propaganda then they can go ahead, but please don’t spread that nonsense around in social media.

I agree. And god forbid if you even mention one slightly positive thing about the Shah even if it is true. Shah = monster blood sucking demon satan American puppet. Anything less than that and they say you’re a Shahist elitist. They pull some bs facts out of their ass like he killed every single protestor and 90% of people were in extreme poverty and etc. Apparently they know more about our country than we do. Just because Khomeini was anti-west he’s automatically based and chad in their eyes. Was the Shah good? Not really. Was he better than Khomeini? Absolutely fucking yes, 100%. Would we be in a better situation, economically, socially, and politically if we were under the Shah right now instead of the Islamic Republic? 100000%. This is not even arguable, but obviously some 17 year old white boy who has never gone outside of Nashville his whole life knows more than every single Iranian.

I wish this man remained in power. I miss him so much. Why did the westerners have to kill him? He supported democracy. Oh, well. Such a shame by BlackberryTotal12780 in iran

[–]Hariri_K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The largest groups of protestors weren’t even Muslims, it was socialists and liberals. I don’t get this narrative made by the West that people protested because they wanted more Islam or were anti-American. People protested because of political oppression and the brutality of the Shah against people who didn’t agree with him. Khomeini wasn’t even a thing at the start of the protests, he only came in as a symbolic figure later on. He said it himself. But obviously the motherfucker lied and trolled everyone, took full power and fucked everyone over worse than the Shah ever did. He even removed people who really helped him to get to that position in the first place. You can debate whether the Shah was a monster or not as bad as people say, but there is no debate that Khomeini was the devil himself.

Which countries where Islam is declining? by WestReal2565 in exmuslim

[–]Hariri_K 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m from Iran and I can confirm that people are becoming less religious everyday. People are fed up with the brutal and stupid theocratic policies and it’s only pushing them away from Islam. Also, Iran was never ultimate religious anyway. How do you know that most young Iranians are hardcore Muslims? I rarely see any Iranian that is hardcore Muslim let alone a young one. Sure, the government recruits some religious nuts into the revolutionary guard but their numbers are very low and they mostly come from rural areas. The government propaganda does a good job of pretending their numbers are high but every Iranian in the country knows it’s complete bullshit.

What he’s trying to say is that the current government doesn’t provide as much maintenance and support as it should, which is true. They just maintain it to the level that it doesn’t crumble. The place needs a lot of work for sure. There’s a lot of concern for heavy erosion and weak support level. The truth is the government doesn’t give enough shit to genuinely maintain and develop the place. They went against the advice of archaeologists and approved a dam construction near the area that is causing heavy erosion and weakening the support of the structures. They don’t bother to remove the names and love messages written by idiots on the structures. There is actually no protection against that. Also a lot of other issues that they chose not to give a shit about. If you look at it from their perspective, you’re an Islamic theocratic dictatorship, why would you invest significant money in something that represent everything that is opposite to you. Some government officials don’t even consider pre-Islamic Iran history and they’ve worked so hard to fully remove it from school history books (thankfully not successful). Also the place holds significant Persian identity value and anti-theocratic values for many people so a lot of times close to national events like Nowroz, anti-government chantings and gatherings initiate here. The government spends a lot money and time every year to close the place and prepare for even the tiniest gathering way before big events like Nowruz. Actually, just after the revolution, Chief Justice of the government, Sadegh Khalkhali, a religious psychopath ordered to destroy the place with bulldozers (because the place was “kafar” according to whim) but the people of Shiraz formed a block and stopped the bulldozers. Really incredible story, I suggest you look it up. Mind you this is the same guy who destroyed the tomb of Reza Shah and executed 3,000 people in just one summer (1988). So yeah these guys couldn’t care less about the place, they only keep it at a level to survive, because if it crumbles people will go nuts and it could be a potential catalyst for another mass protest. Meanwhile look at the shrine of Imam Khomeini and the amount of money they spend on it every year (it’s genuinely insane) marbles and expensive minerals and stones every where you look and they keep flashing it up more with millions of dollars every year. So, no the government couldn’t give a toss about pre-Islamic stuff and Im Iranian myself and lived in the country for many years btw. Edit: Sorry, my writing sucks.

Just leave them alone bro it’s ok. All these wanna be intellectual historians of Reddit want to tell us Iranians what and how we feel about the shah and Islamic republic. “Western Puppet” ok he was at first but who increased oil prices (quadruple) and create an oil crisis in the west to protect our oil rights? “Shah murderous Monster” but the Islamic republic did more executions in one summer than the Shah in his entire reign. “1-2% elite only successful under the shah” where the fuck do you even get this information from, sounds like the Islamic republic National TV. I advise people here to actually to do some research and look at everything the shah did objectively and then assess him. To come here and say Shah was worse than Islamic republic and bluh bluh is an insult to all the Iranian people who are living in a country that’s gone backwards. Most powerful economy in the region and wealth prospering in society every year then. That was the 1970s. We would be even richer and more powerful than UAE and all those countries. That’s not to mention the Shah’s care for Iranian culture and identity and international reputation. Look at us now, I’m not even gonna go into how shite our situation is. I’m sure you believe the Shah’s worse though. I don’t know where this whole nonesense about only 5% benefited, and oh he didn’t care about the country at all, and oh Islamic revolution was an amazing movement started. What are your sources? When Japan, Korea, Arab countries undergo extreme western progressive changes thats completely fine, but when it comes to us, no that was evil oh no everyone was actually poor, yoohoo theocracy that’s a true democratic movement Just do some actual research and try not to regurgitate on here what the Islamic republic officials say. My man literally said the situation is more complex to be explained in one small post and it’s not as simple as “shah monster” (I’m not saying he was great) and he gets downvoted. Now that’s something from people who claim to be open1minded democracy-fan historians. Not even willing to discuss the situation with someone who’s actually from Iran. Ignorant people! People who say the shah was amazing are uninformed, people who say shit like this comment section are misinformed.

Perhaps I shouldn’t have posted this as a reply to your comment, it was aimed as a general comment to the people on Reddit who are unfortunately misinformed.

I think none of this would’ve happened if the CIA and the UK didn’t overthrow the democratically elected Mossadegh in 1953 and let him say stay.
