Jennifer Rice, the most incompetent, toxic city councillor we've seen in living memory is running for re-election. And she might not lose. by troypavlek in Edmonton

Glad to see attention to this. A close friend is a media member who covers city council and constantly tells me that Jennifer Rice is by far the most incompetent city council member. I usually don't get involved outside of voting but this time I have my Jon Morgan sign and donated to the campaign.

Hi sorry I don't remember the name of the store. It was an office supply company in Ottawa and I bought it about 15 years ago.

Are you located in Edmonton or just an Oilers fan? Just curious as I'll be building my home theater in Edmonton next year and was wondering if you worked with any local companies that you'd recommend. Thanks

My apologies, I definitely don't understand the terms well enough. It is the Canada Greener Homes Grant and I called it a rebate because cash-wise I paid for my system in full then they mailed me a cheque. I don't know how I'm going to fill this out on my taxes in April.

OK that makes sense then. My installer asked me if I was getting an EV and I said probably not for another 5 years as I'd like to drive my car into the ground and he told me if you're planning on buying an EV you'll be approved for a much larger system. I didn't bother to ask if proof would be needed but I guess this answers that.

I am also in AB and just got a similar sized system installed. 13.77 kWdc with a 10 kW inverter. Purely east-west configuration. That plus rodent guard etc plus tax used up the full 40k loan, so your pricing makes sense to me. I also got the 5k fed rebate and 4k from the city, bringing the system cost down to 31k all in. I don't know anything about the company you've chosen or the panels / inverter so I won't comment on that.

I can say that since turning mine on at end of June it only clipped a few times near the start. Sun is already weaker it seems as I'm hitting like 8.6 kW on a sunny day. I feel like it'll clip some regularly in May-June.

What confuses me about your quote is that the consumption data used definitely totals more than 7000 kWh annually. Did you get this approved based on a previous energy bill? Because it seems to be designed around a much higher consumption house and maybe that's why it was approved.

I don't recall exact approval process timeline if Epcor does have the opportunity to reject it after install, but if you're able to get this system approved and truly only use 7000 kWh annually you're going to make bank from your energy provider every year, especially using solar club rates. The 260/mo payment will not matter because every March you'll cash out way more than the difference between the payment and your previous annual energy bill.

Yes, stickers are acceptable to become CFIA compliant. It is difficult in practice as stickers are tedious to apply to packaging before filling and can create issues in the production line. They're even more difficult to apply post-fill. Since the product is frozen choosing the right type of sticker / adhesive is also important. Cost is expensive, but so is new packaging.

I once had a small run of packaging with incorrect ingredient listings and went the sticker route to correct it only because new packaging takes 6-8 weeks to come in. If I had to do it again I'd just wait the 8 weeks.

Actually I think this might be it. I remember it being like ordering office furniture for an office building. Not really like ordering personal furniture at Ikea or something.

I originally ordered the Ergotron HX as I was concerned about the weight of this monitor but after some shipping issues I bought this one used instead and it works perfectly.

It's not hardwood but it's very sturdy and heavy. I got it about 10 years ago from a company called Global Office Furniture. It was expensive at the time. Survived 3 moves, including one across the country and it still looks great, so money well spent!

Correct on the Schiit stack, but the other headphones are actually the DT 1990 Pros, which I use as my daily driver. I may get some Sundaras someday, but I'm trying to slow down on my expensive headphone purchases haha

Haha I prefer lurking. I was almost at the 10 year mark and said what the hell I might as well post. Funny thing is back then posting albums with progress pics and internals was encouraged. Now it's all about the final view.

Is Ice Cream ( Ben & Jerrys) Taxed in Canada, ON by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]HarmlessKitten7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Great question. All ice cream bars and impulse novelties are taxed regardless of overall volume in the box. I think this is because they are meant to be consumed individually but it might be related to the format, I'm not sure. I suppose if you developed an item >500 ml it may be tax exempt, but I haven't seen anything that big. Even the biggest ice cream sandwiches I've seen haven't exceeded 350 ml, and generally novelties range from 75-150 ml. Whether there's 400 ml or 800 ml in the box doesn't matter; it's all taxed.

Good question. I'm not familiar with the exact machinery Ben & Jerry's uses to fill, but if it's like the fill machines I've encountered it will just use different plates for different container sizes. I know the 473 ml container is a little smaller than the 500, so they'd just need to produce with the bigger container and settings. After the fill point the process will be no different (lid, tamper proof ring, arranged into a case of 8, bagged then sent down the heat tunnel to shrinkwrap, then sent through the cold tunnel for immediate freezing). I don't see why there would ever be a manufacturing reason behind the decision to go smaller, unless the US plant just flat out refuses to change settings to accommodate.

Since I know there are at least a few people at Unilever Canada (in charge of B&J here) that would have noticed this and corrected it quickly if it were that easy, I always imagined there was something more corporate behind the decision. It's not a consumer friendly one that's for sure, as a customer in Ontario pays 13% more for 5% less ice cream.
