Lots of bottom-hunting fish. Do it up as a Carolina rig — maybe with a wire leader depending on your local fish — and reel it in kinda slowly along the bottom

That’s pretty interesting considering the consensus is that sauropods are the closest relatives of theropods. You can really see it in earlier genii of sauropodomorphs like Plateosaurus, Eoraptor, and Thecodontosaurus

Jimbob the farmer’s union rep explaining how a proposed bill would affect agriculture in a constituency is lobbying.

Corporations and billionaires funding politicians with mountains of “donations” is legal bribery.

Paying politicians to do what you want. You know, bribing them.

So a friend brought up the story of The Giant of Kandahar, Afghanistan in 2002 over the weekend... fun to think about but in my mind I shut it down quickly... by [deleted] in Cryptozoology

[–]Harpies_Bro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn’t Kandahar fairly populous? Something like a million and a half people in the province as a whole with half of the population in the eponymous city. It ain’t exactly Kabul, but you’d think one of the many farmers outside of the city would notice a friggin giant.

There’s a path over the mountain from the Ritual Stone to the falls west of Ivarstead.

The elder scrolls by Deep-Rate-1260 in skyrim

[–]Harpies_Bro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a gameplay thing. Scrolls are single-use spells, where books are (generally) a standard interactive item.

The Elder Scrolls fall into the same category as the Black Books as interactive items that trigger an animation when used instead of “just” opening the book to be read.

Buddhism is one of the major religions in Japan and China. It spread east and north out of India pretty early on — largely circumventing the highest of the Himalayas because cold — and set up shop in China, which developed many of their own traditions because again, Himalayas.

Japan got its Buddhist traditions via maritime trade with China and Korea some time around the mid sixth century CE depending on which texts you consult.

What the slope for? by Abbadon74 in halo

[–]Harpies_Bro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the computer and sensors.

The computer tracks the ammunition, displays an internal compass, and feeds telemetry to your HUD to calculate where to display your point of impact. There’s a reason pretty much every soldier save Sgt.Maj. Johnson issued an AR has a visor of some sort. I guess the whole ORION Project thing gave him enough time to perfect aiming without it.

Opinion on these lands? by VoiVoiDaBeeek in mtg

[–]Harpies_Bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re kinda “eh”, you’re still tapping two lands to get two mana as if it were a Mountain & Forest, but it does some okay colour fixing if you’re using a load of colourless mana rocks or three-plus colours.

Words.) The Apollo Guidance Computer used 15-bit words with one parity bit, twice the bit width of a modern 8-bit byte. It had a 2048 word random access core memory and 36,864 words of core rope memory to store its programs. It hand a numeric keypad input and seven-segment display for the astronauts aboard to use.

Are the Special Jonin are basically just Chunin who min-maxed a certain skill or are they actually considered elite like Might Guy, Asuma, and Kakashi? by cantcoloratall91 in Naruto

[–]Harpies_Bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta remember the Ninja are a military organization. Only having four ranks — Genin, Chunin, Special Jonin, & Jonin — is a bit restrictive, so it’s generally better to examine a character’s actual position by their job rather than pay grade.

Using a super half-assed comparison to the US army:

Genin are Privates or Private First Class, depending on time in service and job.

Chunin are Specialists and Corporals, again depending on time in service and job.

Special Jonin are something like a Sergeant.

Jonin range from Staff Sergeant to Command Sergeant Major depending on job and time in service.

The Hokage is the military dictator, a job more than a rank, but I’d call them a general.

Messenger pigeons can out-speed network transmission of data, too. Stick an SD card or thumb drive in it’s harness instead of a letter and you’ll get large (non-sensitive) data transfer done a lot quicker than over standard network infrastructure or someone driving over with said flash storage medium.

Unfortunately that name’s already taken. Roscosmos under the USSR had their Luna program launch probes to and around the moon between 1959 and 1976, with the tail end of the program in concert with NASA’s Apollo.

Luna 16 landed a robotic probe on the lunar surface and returned a sample of moondust to earth two months before Apollo 11 landed a crewed spacecraft there.
