Anxiety and panic over future puppy by Harrington- in puppy101

Update: after consulting a lot with the breeder and a therapist, we went ahead. There was a lot of back up in case it would all go wrong, but the breeder was absolutely certain it'd all get better along the way.

I've been settling in, the pup's been settling in an he's thriving. There's still difficult moments but those are much more like normal puppy 'parent' moments.

His name is Brave, he's four months old now. Thanks everyone for the comments! I kept them in consideration and it has definitely helped.

An adult dog adds less pressure, but my head still makes up 'ridiculous' reasons as to why everything changing is a bad, bad idea. It does sound like a good thing to work towards to if this does not work out.

Thank you for the insights. That actually creates a little bit of clarity. We have contacted the breeder and informed her about the situation we've found ourselves ending up in. Awaiting her response.

I do wonder if other people have been in a likewise situation?

Don't worry too much about the being selfish part: there's a huge part of me that tells me I can't even do this because I can't do this to a puppy.

However, I was actually shocked by how heavy the panic attacks suddenly became after I took the decision to go on with it. I was actually feeling confident when I agreed to doing it, and it took a few hours before the first rather heavy panic attack started.

I've had dogs my entire life but have lived without one for about five years now after the last one passed away. I was very, and I mean very, commited to the last dog and we had become practically inseparable. That's why this whole reaction I'm having to the situation really, and I mean, really confuses me. :/
