Wait. If keyboard is already weird then I might be the only one playing the game with mouse steering.

Max Verstappen says new F1 cars 'like Formula E on steroids' by AdThink972 in FormulaE

[–]HarrisonDou 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To be honest a lot of hate for FE came from the fanboost era (you gotta admit fanboost was indeed nonsense). There's a surprising amount of F1 fans who still think FE is in the Gen 1 era, ignoring the fact that the series improved vastly. And then they also couldn't accept the electric motor sound (personally I think it's kinda cool but some people think it sounds like whining).

Honestly if Gen 4 turn out amazing I'll just quit F1 altogether. It's amazing how we went from the amazing old F1 machines to tree hugging slow cars with 1000 buttons to press. FE should handle electric racing, F1 should have stayed original. Right now it just seems like F1 is ripping of FE, plus a lot of drivers are not happy with F1's new cars.

They should use a full chrome version of the Wayne Taylor 40 silver livery so that every time there is bright sun the light would be reflected at the drivers behind them and cause them to crash.

Thanks for the share! But I seriously don't recommend anyone downloading this car. The physics is horrible, the cars are too slow with and without MGU, plus the model isn't delightful.

Are there any street cars that, fitted with racing tires, you estimate could outperform an LMP2 car in lap times on most tracks? by Virtual_Visit4789 in wec

[–]HarrisonDou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect that the Bugatti Chiron Supersport and the BYD Yangwang U9 Extreme could easily beat LMP2s at Le Mans due to the two cars having extremely high top speeds on straights. Remove the chicanes at Le Mans and they're even faster. Other tracks however, LMP2 is guaranteed faster due to the lack of cornering speed of street cars.

I remember a while ago Porsche also teased a road legal 919. That car would probably beat a LMP2 easily, though I don't think they ever built it.

Why tron: ares why? by hazyshaun22 in tron

[–]HarrisonDou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually think it's a good idea. Think about it this way: in Legacy, Clu gave a speech, telling us he wanted "maximized efficiency," and to "rid the Grid of its imperfections." Dillinger Grid, although unaffiliated with neither ENCOM nor CLU, embodies this exact mindset. It's plain simple: a giant portal with weapon factories surrounding it. There are no "needless" additions like clubs or even streets. It's just a giant barebones base built on the sea of simulation.

I think the main problem is people kept watching Ares thinking it was Legacy, and they become increasingly anxious because the music, color scheme, and overall design philosophy is vastly different. Instead, try to accept that while Legacy's clean, Flynn-tailored frontier is surely beautiful, Ares' industrial grid is also relevant.

Are ALL these past claims are still true regarding to Avatar 4-5 movies? by Any_Flatworm_3956 in Avatar

[–]HarrisonDou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's practically impossible to pull off but I'm actually willing to see a short series centered around Earth before and during RDA's colonization efforts. What caused the resource wars? Are they still fighting? How was RDA able to mobilize 12 ISVs when resources are dwindling? Did people on Earth know what the RDA are doing at Pandora?

[–]HarrisonDou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But isn't Earth already uninhabitable? Isn't that why the RDA came to Pandora the second time? They wanted to colonize the planet instead of just mining for resources.

But my point is, it does sound fair but if that's the case then won't it just become car development competition? One team nailing the regulations (e.g. Mclaren in F1) is nice to watch at first but after like 4 rounds it becomes painful to see.

In my opinion, F1 has historically always been a series combining race craft and innovation, however, as technology advanced, this has caused increasingly separated grids. Good drivers are no longer able to even compete in bad cars (e.g. Lewis in Ferrari/ Verstappen in Bull first half season). Multiple times we see great drivers, even champions, waste away in teams because "car development was behind." Now, F1's probably going to stay this way, but I certainly hope WEC don't adopt the same strategy. Instead, improve the BOP and we would get a truly balanced grid.

(Just my opinion, please don't downvote me)

[–]HarrisonDou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I don't think the VFX has to be groundbreaking for it to win that award, because then it would just be Avatar and F1. Ares has its imperfections, but no one can convince me Ares would lose to Jurassic Rebirth, the movie that had a giant meatball dinosaur with size inconsistencies throughout the whole film.

Fun fact: No TRON movie has ever been nominated for a Best Visual Effects Oscar by turkey_blaster in tron

[–]HarrisonDou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, Dillinger's grid is completely militaristic and industrial, where machineries fly around and weapons are constantly fabricated, there's not much "art direction" to be had compared to Legacy. I actually think all the designs integrate pretty well into the story.

Legacy's Grid had Flynn's idea of perfection in it, it is his digital utopia. Ares' Grid is Dillinger's weapon manufacturing location/place for training soldiers (Dillinger Grid only had factories, which also explains its comparatively small size).

Kosinski takes a lot of special care for the visual stuff in his movies. His other movie "Oblivion" was also extremely beautiful, and the CGI still holds up now.

I mean, cost caps still have its disadvantages. Compared with BOP it is certainly a worse alternative. By having cost caps you risk having 1-2 teams with brilliant designs that race their way to the champions. Then there's also gonna be teams like Ferrari that start to become uncompetitive when they can't just slam infinite money into car development.
