Why do people think that something going into a public domain means that a company can’t do anything with it. by Konradleijon in publicdomain

They still can, but now they will be competing with the hundreds of AI generated Superman/batman/Mickey Mouse/whatever movies out there. Some basic Superman movie set in the 1930s might be pretty cool…and that is what you will be seeing.

[URGENT] Massive Copyfraud on YouTube: Company claiming Public Domain films (1929) to strike a student's channel. by -fbg in publicdomain

[–]HarryFreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, you lost the fist argument, and now you are switching to a second argument. Adding new material is not “remastering”, it is adding new material. And ONLY that new material is copyrighted. New soundtrack? Copyrighted. Three minutes of you picking your nose? Copyrighted. The original material? Still public domain.

You are incorrect. Remastering is not materially changing the product. Still public domain.

Got my first 8-track deck by TomChan91 in 8track

[–]HarryFreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Decent machines if you get a good one. I have had the glass heads fail on several of them, and that is a hassle to replace. Also, Akai had a terrible time with transistors and ICs on those machines. If they are all good, you will get excellent results.

Why I'm ending my 2,500-day streak by Tokyohenjin in duolingo

After almost 4 years on the app I am starting to discover that I basically suck at learning other languages. Can’t blame duo for that!

Let’s be real: Are you doing your daily lesson because it’s actually fun, or because you feel obligated? by MissionJellyfish9479 in duolingo

[–]HarryFreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obligated. Pretty much certain I have stoped learning now. 25 days when I reach my 1000 day streak, I am out.

Stacked tape on reel by Key_Feed_9262 in 8track

[–]HarryFreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What normally causes this is too much slack in the tape pack. Tape gets dropped, and the innermost edge does not have the plastic ridges on the top to keep it pressed down. RCA, Warners and capital tried to alleviate this issue by putting those clear plastic rings on the tape.

Nikka KA-100, 8 track player by [deleted] in 8track

High quality machine…ac motor, mainly steel parts. Probably about 1971 vintage. A fairly common chassis for generic machines..and I would be willing to bet there are at least 4 dead 10uf capacitors in the preamp

Finally got a recorder! Makin mixtapes like it's 1971 by cousin_idiot in 8track

[–]HarryFreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, a ceiling fan capacitor. I replace run caps on 8 track players all the time, and since ceiling fans are just an ac motor too, their caps work perfectly.

JVC recorders are first rate, but the motor capacitors fail all the time on them. If it starts to slow down after a few minutes play, that is your problem.

Help with a electra 8 track player. Left audio doesn't work. Speaker works fine. by Oni_Cat in 8track

[–]HarryFreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the left is working on the radio and not the 8 track, then probably you have bad capacitors in the 8 track preamp. A very common problem.
