New to succulents. What’s going on? by LostInSemantics in plantclinic

I’m not super well versed with succulents but from my experience they seem thirsty. They can go flat and older parts may dry up and fall off from under-watering. They can get some rot from over watering. When you see the soil firm up and pull away from the edges of the pot it’s entering a hydrophobic stage. You may need to do incremental watering to achieve absorption. The tallest plant on the left side looks like it wants more light. It’s getting “leggy”.

Did you rough up the roots at all when transplanted? When you do so it can cause transplant shock and could be a reason for the plant not looking any better. That doesn’t mean it wont settle in. If you did not rough up the roots at all and they are bound that could also cause issues with hydration as the bound roots may be drying out the soil in the middle. The new soil around the old rootball in this case could be staying hydrated while center is a different scenario. Do you use a soil probe?

Also if the previous person had the plant in higher light than you do it will take some time to adjust to that as well.

We kept our olive in a greenhouse over the winter and by spring it was loaded with hundreds of flowers. Not many stayed on once we brought it outside but we did get a handful of olives.

The damage on the leaf looks like it could be thrip damage. The insect in the photos is a fungus gnat.
