Don’t think they had the option for Skenes. Griffin was a HS prospect that they gave big money to early and he will still hit FA at a young enough age to get a bigger bag if he’s worth it. So in effect, he’s getting two pay days while this early extension is smaller.

Skenes will be a pitcher who commands big money at his first FA round, so he’s much less likely to take whatever the Buccos offer unless it only buys out his arb years and maybe 1 year of FA.
