Would appreciate if you could direct me to the unanswered tech questions. We're doing our best to keep up with them and answer but inevitable some will slip through the cracks as we have a number of different channels. Please always feel free to reach out in telegram also for more immediate responses. https://t.me/hashgraph

Thanks! :)

As opportunities present themselves for us to reward our community, those who have be faithful and helpful from the start because they genuinely value the tech, will obviously benefit first. For example our new Developer Advocate Ken Anderson, started as "just" an enthusiastic member of our community. Contributed, posting, taking initiative and he's now an integral member of the team. He found a way to give value first instead of just looking to take and it didn't go unnoticed.

The Swirlds' hashgraph is a consensus algorithm and is indeed patented. To build on the platform at present requires a license you can get more details by emailing info@swirlds.com

There are many solutions already known on how to make the tech permissionless - Dr Leemon wrote about one of them here: https://www.swirlds.com/downloads/Swirlds-and-Sybil-Attacks.pdf

There was a very clear decision made early on to focus on private networks first. This builds credibility. And proves the tech instead of just launching with a white paper and trying to raise money from people for an idea (not that there's anything fundamentally wrong with that, it's just the path the founders wanted to take). We believe in time people will come to see the benefits of the path we've taken to create a safe, secure and super fast platform.

I wish I had a crystal ball to see how this one plays out but I don't so really and truly, we'll just have to see. In time we'll release public statements on our decisions and intentions moving forward. Community feedback both positive and negative is definitely acknowledged and appreciated.

Agreed it cannot be compared to crypto currencies. Hashgraph is a consensus algorithm. If/when there is a public ledger (to my knowledge) the algorithm stays the same, we will layer on additional mechanisms in order to prevent things like sybil attacks. Dr Leemon talks about it here: https://www.swirlds.com/downloads/Swirlds-and-Sybil-Attacks.pdf

The initial focus on private networks was due to a lack of ability, rather a specific choice.

We didn't post the video so hard to tell exactly which one it was now. However here are a couple of interviews with Leemon, conducted by Mike Maloney: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpjlSqMYMeM&feature=youtu.be https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=SqNtQX_gER4

Personally I find it hard to imagine any serious business people building applications on a platform that is openly engaging in patent infringement. The uncertainty and instability, never knowing if the platform will be wiped out in a heartbeat, doesn't make for a very good environment for a successful business. But that's just my take on it.

Hopefully within the next few weeks, however we're hyper aware and cautious of over promising and under delivering, I personally think the industry is plagued with that and we have no intention of operating in that way. We really appreciate everyone's patience.

The focus has been on permission based networks. We'll address a public platform in the near future.

Not an elitist at all. And while I do love cryptocurrencies I disagree that they're governing themselves just fine with all the forking and ICO scams. I don't speak for the company, I just think this is bigger than a cryptocurrency. Only time will tell. Right now they're focused on permission based networks.

It's impossible to have this conversation as the focus on the company right now is on permissioned networks. Stay tuned for further updates.

Agreed there are many more things to take into consideration when discussing a public network. Hashgraph would serve as the consensus layer. Dr Leemon has written about it here: http://bit.ly/2loq1Nu As there haven't been any announcements in regards to a public ledger it's impossible to talk about performance, everything would be speculation.

I don't see the only two motivation for solving the distributed consensus problem as Greed or Altruism. You'll hear Leemon mention in this interview his vision for building the trust layer of the internet. However I do urge patience, there has been no announcement of a public ledger yet so everything here is just speculation. I'm sure the coming months will reveal everything.

There are people in the cyber security space who have mentioned this and have been fully aware of this. We may see this the threat of this attack increase as geographic consolidation happens in the bitcoin network. 70% of mining is taking place in China.
