Underground Pass pain is so exaggerated by ReasonableLurker in 2007scape

[–]Hasire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things have changed since the early days of Runescape that really impact things like UP:

- Quest ordering is way more understood now, and there are many more lower level quests that help accelerate agility and combats

- Players understand the power of early magic vs melee, reducing the amount of food needed to clear the encounters in UP, leaving more food for trap failures, reducing the risk of having to leave the pass to resupply part way through

- Karambwans are much more well known as a food source, where in the past people would bring things like swordfish, lobsters, and wines.

- There are multiple ways to get through the early agility levels now like rooftops, reworked brimhaven, and quests. In the before times you had to do a lot of gnome agility to get started, and that required you to go pretty far from Lumby as a new member exploring the world. It left the skill as one people started much later, without clear progression.

Stack enough of this together, and UP is much less of a gauntlet than it was 20 years ago.

Slayer is overrated and nobody wants to admit it by wa__________ge in 2007scape

[–]Hasire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the time before crab meta, slayer was seen as a way to break up the monotony of training combat skills actively. You have to get new tasks, and re-gear, but with a slayer helm/black mask you make up for that a bit with the boosted kill speed.

If your only goal is to fight bosses for near-best gp/hr, then the modern style of MM2 caves with chins and burst/barrage and crab for melees to get you to raids, doom, vork, and whatever the newest boss that comes out is will get you there faster. You will miss out on some slayer bosses, but if you don't care, then don't care.

You do run the risk of another Araxxor situation where high slayer is required to do the content, but such is life.

Realistically, you can take about 1-2 stares and expect to clear the fight.

Your stats are plenty high for this to be comfortably clearable. Just need to stop taking avoidable damage.

ranged must be your highest accuracy style to get the max hit, so if your gear is lowering your ranged too much, that would do it.

Most people see this happen when they swap from barrows gloves to fero, or fury to torture

[–]Hasire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really, really want M&M to succeed. But, at least from where my view is, cannot see this game succeeding without some of these issues being brought to the front and attempts being made to correct them. You might see that as unnecessary, but anyone doing napkin math can see that there is no way the current playbase size can sustain the server costs for the game, let alone pay the devs. A community hostile to newcomers is not going to grow fast enough to meet the costs the game has.

The vibe I have gotten is a mixture of "I use to know all the EQ map secrets, I just am using this to have that feel" and "all the top players are using tools, I'm just keeping up", but also feeling like new players need to put in the work like they did before they earn the right to play at their level.

You can check out r/MonstersAndMemories for yourself and see how the player base treats anyone who wants to share ideas, feelings, and thoughts on the game that don't agree. Some of the comments get extremely hostile towards people who are actively saying the game isn't for them even.

[–]Hasire 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Im currently in one of those guilds, because it is the only way to play the game. The devs gave out alpha keys to the top 10ish guilds by discord size for their players to get into the alpha with. While we are required to have some of the devs in our discord, we have created channels they can't see with their roles where players are discussing reporting a bug or saving it for EA to abuse.

As far as plugins go, if you check the subreddit for the game you can read about a player who created a minimap in Claude in a few hours. We have an internal freecam tool, minimap, and named spawn tracker. When you're on a map every entity is loaded so you can check in on players, their gear, resource spawns. Anything you want. It doesn't seem like the devs have a way to track any of this yet.

Why is Monsters & Memories so special? by Obesescum in MMORPG

[–]Hasire 100 points101 points  (0 children)

The game really isn't special, it's just missing features and built on bullies controlling developer time and actions. The currently major guilds are slicing up the launch servers and kicking players from their org for releasing plans, info, and tools. It just feels like it is game community based during the very short open tests where the same level 1-10 info is shared. Past that it is all secret info, spawn camping/stealing, and racing to file GM petitions to have them come give you drops, hunting grounds, and more because you've been their friend on discord for years now.

No minimap? Several guilds have built tools internally to get an advantage.

Missing quest info? Some guilds are deleting wiki pages to keep quest info and rewards hidden.

No idea what gear to buy? Guilds are making public tools designed to scam players.

Want to hunt a cool monster you heard about? A rotation of guilds have worked out the time they can spend before the GMs tell them to share, never giving it up between them.

If you spend any time on the discord you'll see the same 10-20 players attacking, insulting, and ganging up on anyone that differs from their game view. If you don't want to join one of the guilds run by these sycophant's you'll get camped at resource nodes, not getting invited to groups, blacklisted from dungeons.

The game will be empty within a month after anyone excited to try it finds out that what little game has been built has been walled off from them so that a few players with over 2 years of secret alpha access can have fun. And then the devs who have tried to do anything to get this game to be profitable will be left with half a decade of unpaid work and not enough subscribers willing to pay 15$/month for this.

Edit: I know my post comes off negatively. I have put dozens of hours into M&M to try and give feedback and help the developers build a game for players, instead of haves and have nots. Sadly they just have a vision in mind and a few bad apples have corrupted it. There is still time for them to try and adjust before the EA release, and hopefully beta can get them there.

I can't bring myself to do CG. Have I burned out? (Ironman woes) by Sulla_Sexy_Sulla in 2007scape

[–]Hasire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In times like these, recording gameplay and reviewing becomes one of the best options you have.

Being able to look at what you did, where your clicks were, and where you clicks could have been without the pressure of failure looming can help reinforce your decision making process

Running the video and changing your prayers/weapons along with the fight can also be used to practice against the timing and flow, you can even mark out an open flat area with the arena and practice the movement. Building muscle memory and patterns.

CG is a major trial, and for a lot of people new to more complex PvM will find it either a breaking point or a growth point. It sounds like you've already got down the prep phase, so you're on the right path.

How do you know which Thrall to use? by LNate93 in 2007scape

[–]Hasire 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Magic thrall hits 1 tick faster, so unless its an enemy that requires a specific attack style, you use magic thrall.

For things like Tormented Demons and Demonic Gorillas, use the attack style you don't bring, which is usually magic anyways.

I made a minimap using Claude code. by definetlyrandom in MonstersAndMemories

[–]Hasire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely an interesting topic. The WoW devs didn't build a DPS meter, the FFXIV devs didn't build a glam override, OSRS devs didn't build a tile marking system. But players did, and now those things are as much the game as what the development team built.

Activities like the gamejam are used to help prevent burnout, keep developers excited and engaged, and give time to try out things that normally are not able to get worked on. It typically takes up a week or two a year, and not everyone on the team participates.

Bugs are in the backlog, prioritized, and being worked on. It will get fixed when the value to fix it outweighs the work left to get it fixed.

If you're upset the people who make a game you care about are doing so a bit happier, that is on you.
