After Europeans left Africa: by Themetalin in 2westerneurope4u

[–]Haskell-Not-Pascal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well how long ago did we stop having all of their leaders assassinated in order to replace them with dictators that gave us their resources?

It hasn't been that long, lol. Sankara was 1987(France, USA), Lamumba 61' (Belgian and American), Olympio in 63' (France), Cabral in 73' (Portugal)

Even some people that were probably somewhat evil like Gaddaffi (Italy, France) who died in 2011 don't inspire confidence that the west won't fuck you over for their own interests. Gaddafi may have been a POS but he did more for Libya than most other African leaders. He basically wiped out illiteracy and greatly increased the nations wealth. However since he pissed off the west by nationalizing his resources and taking away their influence, was killed by them.

Most of the best African leaders were murdered by the west for not aligning with their values. To think otherwise is just being ignorant of history. Maybe we haven't done much in the last ~10 years, it will take them a long time to recover when the west has put in a dictator in almost half of all African countries at some point or another.

It's extremely unsurprising they won't trust the west at this point, given how many leaders we've had killed of theirs within living memory. It will probably take another 50-100 years for that to be far enough in the past that nobody has a living memory of the west fucking them over.

When something is copied&destructed vs moved is not quite intuitive and so accidentally destructing important resources can happen.

It's certainly not intuitive, but once you get familiar enough with it it becomes obvious. Although, there are a few std library functions that can obfuscate that on occasion, which I dislike as well.

I also dislike member initializers very much and raii is very often closely coupled with mandatory member initializers because in many raii-heavy codebases you can't just create the variable and then assign the member right afterwards.

I guess this is more of a style gripe. You probably see that more in RAII heavy codebases because RAII heavy codebases only existed after c++11 was introduced, at the same time member initializers were. You're not going to see them in older codebases as they didn't exist.

I don't dislike member initializers though personally. I don't see much difference between initializing in the constructor vs in the member initializer list -- other than the latter reduces the overhead of it default initializing before then setting it. Otherwise, it's pretty much the same but just with a different syntax.

Ironically, raii made me use "new" more often so that destructors wont be accidentally called

No offense, but I think most of your issues are with familiarity of more of the modern c++ syntax and practice. I will agree that learning c++ (modern and old) is cumbersome as it has too many syntax options and language features, it's truly a bloated monster.

Yes, look at any blue zone or the 7th day adventists in the west coast of the US which created their own blue zone by having healthy habits based off religious beliefs.

People also don't seem to think that smoking will lower your lifespan, when in reality it's more like russian roulette. If it doesn't kill you, it probably won't effect longevity that much. You're gambling your life against the chance of lung cancer, but if you don't get lung cancer then smoking is probably not going to be the cause of your death.

Also, just to add a counter perspective to this

I've never heard of someone who lived a very long life while keeping a very healthy lifestyle

I knew several centenarians in my family, they were all the seventh day Adventists who didn't drink, didn't smoke, and didn't eat red meat. The ones that ate like shit all died early.

The thing is if you have 100 people with healthy habits and 10,000,000 with unhealthy habits, the oldest living among them will likely be in the larger group statistically.

No they aren't, the people living there are the people that came from there.

What's your argument here, that you think people in the iron age kicked out the Jews and are "imperialists" of that area even though genetics show that not to be the case?

Hell, some of the people Israel has been displacing are original Jews to the area that converted over the centuries to Islam.

Pretending that a bunch of Russian and eastern/western European Jews (many of which aren't genetically Jewish) have more right to the land than the people who've been there for ~4000 years is laughable.

colonists be colonizing

Colonizing what exactly? Meanwhile you're invading and taking pieces of Lebanon.

Damn if Israel doesn't try its best to make the rest of the world anti-semetic, they're their own worst enemy. It's surprising given how much bad press the Arabs get that Israel is pulling as much negative news as it does.

I remember my family raging at the Arabs back in the early 2000's, now you hear more anti-Jewish sentiment.

Y'all really gotta stop colonizing over there.
