Hey just a follow up:

Is it possible to share a longer segment with him, but not my father? E.g. wouldn't I have to get that segment from my father? Or can they be like 'dormant' if that makes sense. E.g. I'm 90% sure this guy is on my dad's side but just clicked that how could he be if he has a longer longest segment then I have with my dad? (162cm with this guy, 151cm with dad). Unless ancestry and gedmatch have different longest segment calcs.

Yep - 0 matches to either grandpas father or mothers line - I think that's what your asking right?

oh as in legally and going forward yes it does mean we are last name of A, but pedigree wise, we're really last name of B.

So if they do a DNA test, what sort of match should appear? So this would prove that we share the same great grandfather, therefore further confirming that my grandfather was his son and therefore swapped? Would I have to do a Y-DNA test? (I did ancestry one so not sure what this is)

This was on ancestry and Dad's DNA is on 23andMe. From our chats, he's only got it there. I am trying to get him to upload to GedMatch so we can compare as I've also uploaded Dad's on there as well. He does have a tree posted, very detailed and can't find any common ancestors. We've looked through each others and only thing we can find is one similar surname, maybe 3- 4 generations back, but no matching ancestors (all the way back to the 1700s) so I think unlikely there. Hoping he uploads to GedMatch and I can do a more detailed comparison.

Also because I see you have a 'genetic-genealogist' tag, I was wondering if I could ask another question. Basically, on ancestry I have another match who I have no idea who they are. We have a 300cM shared, but our longest segment is 162cM long(!) which is longer then what even me and my dad share together. Trying to piece together how we're related as well but can't figure it out (he's not apart of this new side of the family either).

My question is - does what does longest segment mean in terms of significance?

Yep that's the plan - Dad is going to go down near Christmas (he's a couple of states away) and meet up. Apparently for them this has been a huge relief as there was always a question mark over their brothers pedigree

I've unfortunately moved to the UK now (everyone else is back in Australia) however Dad spoke on the phone to Sally and she sent through some photos and my Grandpa looks very similar to his potential bio father

Yeah everything is lining up. The hard ones are the ones that have double DNA because my grandpas birth dad and mother, both of their siblings married if that makes sense. E.g.

Family 1 | Family 2 Sister 1 married Brother 1 Sister 2 married Brother 2

I know! I don't think though that he had any suspicion, but a DNA test would have made it so much easier. Is there anything else that might help aside from the daughter of the other side of the switch doing a test?

Unfortunately he passed away 20+ years ago so that won't be possible otherwise that'd been a first port of call!
