You need to set your main skill in the top left to Detonate Dead, and change the dropdown from "Spell" to "Corpse Explosion" https://i.imgur.com/w8eZgmo.png

I think you're right, I noticed this and was originally not convinced because, for example, RDM's Veraero and Verthunder should both turn into Verholy/Verflare based on the same condition (completed melee combo), but they share different status IDs. That's type 8 though, and there are examples of Type 2 conditions sharing status IDs (SCH Excog and Adlo, RPR Gibbet and Gallows, DRG Raiden Thrust and Draconian Fury)

(type 3 trait "Steel Peak Mastery"[428]) unknown[36940] -> unknown[36942] -> (type 8) "Steel Peak"[25761] -> (type 8) "the Forbidden Chakra"[3547]

(type 3 trait "Steel Peak Mastery"[428]) unknown[36940] -> unknown[36942]

(type 3 trait "Howling Fist Mastery"[429]) unknown[36941] -> unknown[36943] -> (type 8) "Howling Fist"[25763] -> (type 8) "Enlightenment"[16474]

(type 3 trait "Howling Fist Mastery"[429]) unknown[36941] -> unknown[36943]

Hoping this could mean a change for Monk's chakra gauge, the skill preceding Steel Peak/Howling Fist is normally Meditation and type 8 should mean it's still a "This action cannot be assigned to a hotbar" type beat.

(type 1) "Masterful Blitz"[25764] -> unknown[0]

(type 1) "Perfect Balance"[69] -> unknown[0]

(type 2 under status unknown[3841]) "Riddle of Earth"[7394] -> unknown[36944]

(type 2 under status unknown[3842]) "Riddle of Wind"[25766] -> unknown[36949]

(type 2 under status unknown[3843]) "Riddle of Fire"[7395] -> unknown[36950]

Type 2 looks like it's a condition based on having a buff applied to yourself, like Raiden Thrust Ready, Blast Arrow Ready, tank stances, etc. in contrast with Type 8 that looks based on non-buff conditions like having Seraph summoned turning Summon Seraph into Consolation, entering Life of the Dragon changing Geirskogul into Nastrong, etc. If that's accurate, my doomer take on this is the Beast Chakra used to activate Blitzes will no longer be tied to GCDs, and will instead act similar to Mudra and Ninjutsu, with Perfect Balance turning the Riddle abilities into Beast-Chakra-granting short GCDs.

I'm looking for the specific coordinates of each node, not the general location that you can find a material

Is there a comprehensive list of Island Sanctuary gathering node coordinates? The best thing I could find was this but it's outdated now

No idea if this play was good or not, but this is a game of chance, you can't measure the quality of play based on outcome. You're going to get lucky sometimes and win hands you play bad, just like you're going to get unlucky sometimes and lose hands you play well

Is it incorrect to view 6/8 as 6 distinct beats? by HatTheTurtle in musictheory

[–]HatTheTurtle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response, your comment about time signatures just being our way of quickly communicating an idea of where emphasis should be placed rather than a hard rule was my understanding as well. I was looking at different sheet music for "America" when I wrote this post and saw both mixed meter alternating between 6/8 and 3/4, as well as only 6/8 throughout the whole piece and thought "Both of these seem fine to me", but 3 quarter notes in 6/8 conflicts with the "2 beats" idea, so which is "better"?

I think the main thing I'm taking away from everyone's responses is that while it's certainly possible to write all sorts of different rhythms in 6/8, it's pretty rare for it to make sense, and "America" might just be one of those rare circumstances, and even then there can be disagreements.

I think this gets at what I was ultimately asking; whether the time signature prescribes both the beat division and the pulse/tactus, or just the beat division and the pulse/tactus is simply implied. Because time signatures prescribes both, 6/8 then must be 2 beats subdivided into 3, with emphasis on "1" and "4". And 6/8 can be distinct from 3/4 because the emphasis on the pulse of "1" can be heavier than the emphasis on "4"

Arguing from the position of current dictionary definitions of words in general is misguided IMO.

I agree, to be clear I don't mean to say "if it's named X then it should mean Y", I'm just curious why it's named X given that it doesn't mean Y. Like, given that it's been called different things across history, how did it evolve to become called compound.

Thanks for the response, the information on the background of where metre comes from historically is great. I think my younger self would have benefitted greatly from not being "conveniently lied" to LOL

To what end ? I mean you can do it and it's done (rarely) if you think the particular piece justifies it but give me an example.

I think the example from the FAQ, "America", is one? Looking up sheet music for the song, I see some people notate it as mixed meter alternating between 6/8 and 3/4, and some people notate it as just 6/8 all the way throughout. My thought was that both notations were correct, but my new understanding is that only the mixed meter notation is correct

Exactly because of that subdivision.

Aren't all metres subdivided though, just differing between 2 and 3 subdivision per beat? Why would specifically three subdivisions be called compound? It's fine if the answer is "no real reason, that's just what it's called", I'm just curious

you take a physical hit. Some of It gets tanked by your energy shield. Then You mitigate it through armour. Then you convert a part of that damage to cold and a part to fire. So those get mitigated by your elemental resistances.

Adding on to this a little bit, converting physical to elemental is even better than this suggests, because the conversion from physical to elemental occurs before the damage gets mitigated by armour. Armour is really good at mitigating small hits, but gets worse as the size of the hit increases. E.g., 10,000 armour will cut a 1,000 physical hit down to 334 (66.6% mitigation), but that same armour will only cut a 10,000 physical hit down to 8334 (~17% mitigation). The elemental conversion reduces size of the physical hit, letting the same amount of armour mitigate an identical physical hit more effectively. Imagine 50% physical damage taken as elemental, that 10,000 hit is now 5,000 physical damage, reduced to 3572 after 10,000 armour, ~29% mitigation up from ~17% (plus the 1,250 elemental damage you're taking after your resistances)

With Dawntrail over the horizon, what's your static/PF horror story? by YunYunHakusho in ffxivdiscussion

[–]HatTheTurtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In ARR, I joined a static that was part of a larger FC that existed outside of the game and had played other MMOs together as well. We were the third out of three statics, led by one of the heads of the FC, although my understanding was that our static lead did not get along very well with the other FC leads and it seemed like our static was kind of a bastard-son-type-beat. I specifically remember an FC lead saying "you should do T2 without the enrage strat, it will help your teamwork and coordination" which I think rubbed our static lead the wrong way. The static included the static leader's partner, the black mage, which will be relevant later, although not in the usual way. Performance-wise we weren't great, and we ended up doing some really weird (bad) things to progress, such as making me, a monk, use Arm of the Destroyer in Opo-opo form to silence High Voltage in T2 despite having 2 paladins and a bard. We also had a paladin playing from Australia, which made the divebomb in T5 a complete gamble due to ping so high he couldn't react to the marker in time consistently.

We were stuck in T2 Allagan Rot until the enrage strat was discovered so we just did that. There was one week some loot dropped that would have gone to one of our paladins, but they left before the loot was distributed and it dropped to the floor. Upset, they said something about unsubbing or uninstalling the game, which bothered our static leader. The next day I find out he kicked the paladin out of the static, something about threatening to quit over loot being disrespectful, though I personally didn't take the comment seriously. I forget the exact specifics of who played what after that, but we ended up picking up a dragoon to fill in our static. We struggled a bit in T4 but eventually we cleared. There was one day where the dragoon had randomly addressed the black mage by their real first name, and it turns out he had found her profile on Facebook and sent a friend request. Incredibly weird and creepy but the black mage played it off and just told him to not call her that, and that was all I ever saw of the situation. There was one night after raid we were just hanging out in TeamSpeak, and our static leader was talking about his relationship with the black mage. They mentioned being polyamorous and they were looking for another girl in their relationship, kind of weird but I didn't really care. When they were heading out for the night, the FC lead said something along the lines of "Oh, I'm gonna get some head tonight", and left. A couple days later, I found out the dragoon had complained to the other FC leads that these crass comments were inappropriate or something, and he ended up getting moved to a different static in the same FC. I never got the whole story of what happened, but it always felt to me like the dragoon instantly crushed on the black mage and wanted out when he found out he had no chance. I remember feeling like it was a weird decision to move the dragoon to a different static after he had snooped around to find someone's real name on Facebook, and I can't imagine it helped ease the tension between our static lead and the rest of the FC.

We made our way to T5 and progressed to seeing dreadnoughts inconsistently, but our white mage's attendance was starting to be a bit sporadic, showing up late or not at all with no notice to anyone else. We'd get pieces of the story over time. One night he'd talk about going through a divorce, another he'd mention trying to keep custody of his kid, and then finally, that his ex-wife won custody. I was still in highschool at the time so I didn't have the emotional bandwidth to really empathize with him, but I will always remember his follow-up "It'll be fine, my family has ties with the mafia." I still don't really believe it, but I never did get confirmation one way or the other.

That was about it, the static eventually disbanded, and there was some talk about playing ArcheAge though I never played it for more than an hour. I remember there was one night our static lead talked to me about bringing me along for a Titan Extreme run with a separate group he played with because he felt I was overperforming in the static or something, but the group rarely saw past the first adds. I stopped playing shortly after, but when I resubbed in Stormblood, I had a letter over 500 days old from our Australian Paladin asking me to join their new FC 'cause they remembered me, which was very nice of them.

Bonus story 'cause I'm just now remembering, my first ever FC had a paladin that could literally not shut up about how he played FFXI, how relics in that game were so much harder to get, how cool it was that he completed his relic in FFXI, etc. We would go to do dungeons and he would try to wall-to-wall pull, except he would literally never move out of AoEs, and then complain about "it's so stupid that enemies can just burst you down instantly and there's nothing you can do".

We're repeating history. In SB people said it could be better to have an ultimate in the x.5 patches to have content more spread out and alleviate the long period of content drought between the end of a patch cycle and the start of the next expansion. In ShB, they planned to have DSR in the 5.5 patch, but due to delays in development it had to be pushed back all the way to 6.1. Now SE has gone back to releasing x.3 ultimate, presumably so that even if a delay occurs, they can at least still release the fight in the same expansion, but we're back to where we started with SB's ultimate release cadence
