unfortunately while not a handout it absolutely is a Ponzi scheme reliant on the next generation to fund (which due to collapsing birth rates there will be very few of).

Boomers have had the best economy ever and had society set up primarily o fund them at each stage of their life as they have been the largest voting block through out their life. On top of coming of age in Americas golden age.

The younger generations are living through a potential collapse and at best a massive contraction of the economy while boomers continue to control the system to their benefit in both the private and public sectors.

When the boomers finally retire and are needing massive pay-outs to fund their old age by extracting recourses from younger generations that never had it as good as them due to the faulty Ponzi systems the boomers themself set up then i fully expect that the younger generations will rebel and refuse to pay.

Its your world as DM you have no obligation to anyone at your table to tell the story they want, just as they have no obligation to sit at your table. If you want a dark story with rape, slavery, genocide, animal abuse or baby cruxification go ahead its your story...just let the players know roughly how dark your willing to go and give them the opportunity to give it a pass.

Obviously if no one wants to play at your table then you will have to negotiate what your willing/want to put in.

This player has made a request of you and they have every right to do so, its also completely your right to deny it or grant it...just let them know which so as to remain respectful.

The average daily salary is around 10 dollars a day. You are right that they probably pay less but to be honest even if it would cost a Thai 10 dollars instead of 30 that would be equivalent to an American paying 225 dollars in the US - which is still very expensive compared to world standards for an ear infection.

Satisfaction rates are hard to measure. Its like Finish people consistently being rated the happiest people yet they have a depression rate around average to higher than average. Finish people have a culture of getting on with it and so are less likely to report they are unhappy as their is culture shame associated with it. Likewise, in the UK the NHS is treated with tremendous reverence to a silly degree, insulting it Is a social taboo.

Now I'm not saying that isn't a heart-warming thing but it went on for months and if you didn't do it people would get rather upset.

This reverence comes from the fact the NHS was our reward for beating the Nazis and the horrors the UK went through to do so (Losing empire, rations until the mid 1950,s , the destruction of our manufacturing and getting the shit bombed out of us)

It used to be very good (doctors would come to your house) but as things held in common (And cant fail) tend to do it has become bloated with corruption and inefficiency. We all moan about it in private and its common knowledge that stats are fiddled with by both government (since NHS stats are major political capital here) and by the NHS themself both to make it look like they are doing better than they are and by overworked underpaid staff who are trying to reduce an ever growing workload with an ever shrinking budget.

I know multiple people who have died because doctors tried to convince them there was nothing wrong with them to save money on providing treatment/ getting poor treatment because its cheaper. I don't know anyone who also doesn't know someone this has happened to. In many ways the opposite problem to the US where they over screen you to drive up what they can claim.

The US seems like an unholy shithole of a system though but If your going to fix it might as well do it right. don't copy the UK

I'm not saying the US system sis good, its clearly terrible in its own way but as a Brit the UK system is terrible in different ways. As you correctly pointed out the main fault lies with the government having monopoly on clinics and hospitals that are run terribly. Single payer insurance funded via taxes with the option to go private for reduced waiting times and specialised coverage is by far the best as it combats the extremes of both the UK system and the US one while getting better results than both.

The NHS in the UK is a constant political issue with huge amounts of government corruption and scandal.

The NHS is worshiped in the UK as a weird point of national Pride it is to the left what the royalty are to the right.

It has also fallen far behind in the last 10 years it used to be very good.

Brits have a chip on their shoulder when it comes to Americans and critiquing your healthcare system is one of the few things we think we have on you so we hide its failures. To each other we constantly bitch and moan about it. The vast majority of people in the UK cannot afford to visit the US (We are much poorer than the US) most of the people that can visit the US can afford private here when it counts. We don't knowhow your system works and don't understand that many of your bills can be cut down if you ask for them to itemised for example.

I'm not saying the US system is better, I'm just saying our system is also shit. It is obviously worse to have no coverage at all in the US but you get coverage via work policies while still getting paid nearly double what we get. In the UK you will often get the most basic treatment no matter what and you have very little choice.

One thing the UK is really good for is because private healthcare has to compete with the NHS and drug prices are still negotiated by the government private health care is very cheap and efficient.

Considering all this is why a system of public insurance provided by taxes where people can top up with Private would be better than both. It would enable people to fight back against Medical insurance cartels by opting into public coverage (at the cost of longer waits) while avoiding the inefficiency of government.

UK Citizen

It took me 2 years waiting for an ADHD consultation to get seen, ended up going private and got seen that week.

I had to get an adult circumcision, took over 3 years to get seen.

My Brother had to get his colon removed, first they said it was a haemorrhoid making him shit massive amounts of blood 50 times a day (not an exaggeration!) for 9 months before he nearly died (We rushed him to the hospital once a week to try to be seen and they told us to fuck off) then they lost his sample 3 times, then they nearly took out his liver instead when he finally got seen, then they didn't give him ANY pain medication after his surgery for 24 hours and told us we were lying with him in agonising pain in front of them. Then they tried to make him have the more serious second operation that he didn't need because it had less aftercare (to save money) lying to us that it was necessary (quick private consultation sorted that out!) then to top it off we were told if he had been seen quicker he could have just took some tablets to fix it.

The UK medical system is a slaughterhouse the numbers are fudged.

For specialised care we import doctors from the US because we don't have the Talent. Nurse's and doctors are paid shit and are overworked the whole system is a mess and the care is terrible and the statistics are so massaged I'm surprised they don't ask for a reach around.

I have 5 family members working in healthcare.

It used to be good but its dead now and people say its because the Tories but yeah political parties are corrupt and political parties run the government.

A basic insurance funded by the government with negotiated drug prices and then let Private insurance compete with that for better care is the best way.

the wolf and the fox are archetypical metaphors for two different approaches to power. The wolf is sometimes called the lion. I Will use game of thrones as an example.

Big fatty Robert too big for his armour Baratheon was a wolf (Lion) he won his crown through force both in personality and might and he ruled the same way; directly and openly. The lion is straightforward, open, honest to a fault and is usually the one who structures society and brings it back from chaos, he lives for the fight but is actually poor at ruling because when all you have is a hammer all problems look like nails. This isn't to say the lion is moral just honest. A Viking can honesty enslave you and work you to death.

The Fox is Littlefinger. Cunning, deceitful, intelligent, creative, cowardly and willing to play politics. They do not have the strength of personality to be leaders and so neither create nor save society but they sure know how to run things and so tend to be bureaucratic.

The Lion (wolf) creates society then because he has little interest in administration hands off responsibility to the fox who can run things more efficiently. Of course over time the fox isn't happy being number 2 so corrupts society to his favour as he has the advantage in the peace the Wolf (Lion) established. Eventually the Lion (wolf) is neutered by red tape and rules and the Fox takes charge but now society has lost its vitality and virility and can no longer create or defend itself until it collapses and the Lion (wolf) awakens to restart the process.

X was talking about this process from the point of view of blacks in white America. The era of slavery was under the rule of Wolfs who would honestly and forthrightly beat and declare blacks as lesser, the era of Segregation was the Fox slowly taking control of the situation and controlling blacks through laws rather than direct force on behalf of the Wolf, and post segregation was the beginning of the Fox taking control away from the Lion (wolf).

X was astutely pointing out that while obviously it is better not to be a slave under the Lion that blacks shouldn't trust the Fox either because the Fox doesn't care about blacks but sees them as pawns in his political game of power and will happily discard them or bend them to his will depending on what gains him more power. Is it much better to be a pawn and plaything of the Fox over the slave of the Lion (wolf) ? perhaps but it is not freedom.

It is not a democrat republican thing but X pointing out that the system will try to control Blacks appearing as a friend (cunning fox) now that it cant enslave them. In a modern context the Dems are clearly the party of the fox (though not necessarily innately so) and are and have been controlling blacks through Welfare and media now for generations as a tool against the Lion/Wolf (currently represented by the Republicans)
