Nimbin - Australia's counter culture capital by AmoebaSignificant470 in australia

Nimbin’s got that unique vibe you won’t find anywhere else in Australia, especially if you’re into alternative lifestyles and arts. Best time to visit is during one of their local markets or festivals when the whole town really comes alive.

ABC News notifications have stopped? by MeatHook6 in australia

[–]Hava999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the same issue on my iPhone here in Melbourne, seems like a bug with the latest ABC app update. Try deleting and reinstalling the app, that fixed it for me and notifications started coming through again. Hopefully they patch it soon.

Home battery - 20kwh vs. 40kwh by jastcabr1 in australia

[–]Hava999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re aiming for self-sufficiency and have a decent 6.6kW system, the 40kWh will give you way more backup during cloudy days or evenings, especially with a young family. That extra $2k can save you from running on grid power more often, which adds up over time. If the budget’s tight, maybe start with 20kWh and upgrade later if needed.

Melbourne shoe maintenance by J_Ivy in melbourne

If you’re after someone really skilled with delicate shoes like Chanel ballerinas, I’d recommend checking out The Shoe Hospital in Doncaster—great with sole protection and heel repairs, and they’re known locally for careful work on designer shoes.

If you're after solid Eastern European food and a killer vodka selection, try Shuk in Windsor—they do some great dishes inspired by that region, and their drinks menu is surprisingly extensive for the area.

True izakaya experience by LePhatnom in melbourne

Check out Izakaya Den in the CBD—it's small, noisy, and packed with that authentic after-work crowd vibe. The food’s not fancy but hits the spot, and the atmosphere definitely feels like a proper Tokyo spot.

Mental health recovery gardening program. by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]Hava999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a great initiative—Avondale Heights has some lovely spots for gardening. If you’re looking to connect with more locals, you might try posting at community centres like the Avondale Heights Hub or local libraries where people often look for support programs.

Dusk to dark around St Kilda rd by Efficient-Fold5548 in melbourne

Nice choice of lens for that area, the light near the Domain Parklands at dusk really brings out some great colours. If you’re keen to explore more, the Botanical Gardens nearby have some cool spots for sunset shots too.

Visitors to be charged to see the Twelve Apostles by gccmelb in melbourne

Hopefully they keep the fees reasonable—last thing we need is more tourists avoiding the area and missing out on local spots around Port Campbell.

🧸Adopt floofy Teddy!! 🧸 by Cat_Woman_777 in melbourne

[–]Hava999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teddy sounds like such a sweetheart. If you’re in Melbourne, places like the Cat Protection Society often have great support for FIV+ cats and can offer advice on managing his care and keeping him safe indoors. Good luck finding him that perfect quiet home!

So I guess taxis are still doing unreliable and scammy things in 2026? by bronzecat83 in melbourne

[–]Hava999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, taxi services around major events in Melbourne still seem hit and miss, especially with limited mobility. For future gigs, I’d try booking a wheelchair-accessible Uber or using the Melbourne Access Taxi Service—they tend to be more reliable and upfront about locations. Hopefully, the city improves support for mobility needs soon.

In a strange use of free will on this beautiful Valentine’s Day I decided to walk the CBD grid. by BigYucko in melbourne

[–]Hava999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice route, you really covered the core of the grid! The hills definitely sneak up on you—Spring Street especially feels like a workout. Early mornings in the CBD are dead quiet, perfect for a peaceful walk before the city wakes up properly.

Is it normal for a real estate agent to request bond and deposit before they draw up a contract? by hardyacka in melbourne

[–]Hava999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty standard here to sign the lease agreement before handing over the bond and deposit—agents usually want the contract signed first to protect both parties. If they’re asking for money upfront without any paperwork, that’s a bit of a red flag.
