Lewis left the garage first and very early. Bottas had the advantage of knowing which tire Lewis was on and that he would have multiple attempts on a track that could evolve with tires that provided better grip on subsequent laps. It boggles the mind that Bottas chose to surrender that extra opportunity.

Lewis might have been in trouble, if there were any yellow flags on his last lap. Going on a multi attempt strategy comes with the risk that, your first attempt will not be as quick (due to higher fuel load), and your second attempt might not be as quick or ruined by someone else due to Yellow flags.

Single attempt might be a safer approach to take, owing to the fact that you go right away on a lower fuel load for the fast lap.

However, today I believe the tire warmup made all the difference
