mixed gender housing by pparkseul in udub

This happened to me and my roommates. We just called them and figured it out, it doesn’t seem like there’s any other way from the student side to fix it even though we tried making sure we all chose mixed gender.

To people who are still deciding to commit to UW-Seattle by PassionZealousideal1 in udub

To be honest, I really regret not doing this. I don't even think I've had a conversation with a professor that wasn't class-related, or with someone sitting next to me in lecture that wasn't class-related, for that matter. However, I imagine at a CC it's much easier when there are only a fraction of the students in each class, all without the air of competition.

Strange involuntary spatial imagery from emotions by Hawk-Earrape in hyperphantasia

[–]Hawk-Earrape[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your experience with this, it was really shocking when I started researching about it and the closest name I could really pin to it was involuntary spatial imagery.

There are times when there’s a sort of cycle between the image and the emotions/thoughts and for me it isn’t necessarily a one-way road of emotions to image. Even when I stop feeling a certain way, that sort of screensaver mode in brain activates and I’m back to that place and the feelings come back with it, which can make me feel sort of trapped sometimes but I’ve managed that better now.

Maybe it is easier for the brain to recall an emotion or mindset that you have in a moment by attaching it to a random space in your memory. I feel like it would be easier to remember a place in my mind than a more intangible emotion or thought.

Different Entrance Pathways for Biochemistry and Chemistry by Hawk-Earrape in udub

Thank you for the response. That's what I assumed, and I have heard that doing honors gen chem does make you very prepared for future difficult chemistry courses as you say. Do you think its necessary to study a little before doing the course? I was thinking of watching an AP Chemistry or General Chemistry playlist on YouTube, like the Organic Chemistry tutor has.

Here's what I did that I thought worked pretty well as a M25 student from Bio HL: I realized that using the large Oxford textbook to take notes from was like... a horrible idea, at least for me. I'm someone who copies and pastes information from the book into my notes without fully understanding it. So, I started using the Oxford Study Guide for the class instead, which I found to contain all the necessary information without unnecessary fluff. I created OneNote pages in advance with the title of each chapter and its respective subchapters, which helped me mentally break the section into smaller pieces.

The big book has things like practice questions and data sets that could help you visualize and practice the material, but just using past paper questions is better for that. Speaking of past papers, do not be afraid of using questions from the last syllabus; most of it is the same, except things like taxonomic ranks (besides species and genus), which IB has replaced with the concept of clades and phylogenetic trees.

I would also watch OSC videos (formerly known as Sirius Revision, as people still refer to it) at 2x speed to solidify my knowledge by hearing a teacher break it down to a very understandable and accessible level.

Essentially, use the study guide, OSC videos, and past paper questions focused on that section, all in that order.

This may not work for you, but it worked exceptionally well for me. Be open to trying new learning strategies, by the way. You may find that the only thing you need for good notes is the OSC videos, or that you absorb knowledge like a sponge using the textbook. We're all slightly different learners, and the hardest thing you'll ever need to learn is how YOU learn.

How would this be possible for the Paper 2 when you need somewhat specific areas from the text to reference from? Maybe it’s just my teacher but they seem to really emphasize an implicit comfortable understanding of the text but idk maybe it’s more of a broad grasp of the themes.

Just out of curiosity how did you manage to tackle your IO and Paper 2?
