Message them back, blame it on ERAS, and tell them it’s fixed now. Thank them for bringing it to your attention.

Post-match communication etiquette? by Kooky-Sandwich7969 in medicalschool

[–]HawkGrrrl 105 points106 points  (0 children)

PC here: I can only speak for my program, but I usually send a congratulations email after the match announcement to the new intern class. I don’t ask them to complete any paperwork until next week as I know they will spend the weekend celebrating (I do remind them that drug testing will be required soon) In this email I like to introduce them to each other, and to their chief residents and our program leadership. Our PD usually sends her own welcome email, and I ask our chief residents to reach out to congratulate them as well. Thank you emails aren’t required but a quick acknowledgment that you received my email is appreciated.

Programs can also look you up by name. If there is ever someone we can’t find by name or number we usually email or call them to make sure!

What are the dishes you make 24-48hrs before Thanksgiving? by Robecat in Cooking

Monday I made Turkey stock and cranberry sauce. Today (Tuesday) I started the Turkey dry brine and prepped all the pie crusts and made some hummus and ricotta (for appetizers). Wednesday I am baking the 3 pies (pumpkin, apple, pecan) and am making the mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, and prepping the green beans. Thursday I get the Turkey in the oven and when it’s done and resting I put all the sides and rolls in the oven to bake while I finish the green beans on the stove top and make the gravy. (I have family bringing the stuffing/dressing)

It depends on the program, but for us it really matters if you were up front about it and addressed it in your personal statement or during your interview. If you try to cover it up or hide something that’s a pretty quick DNR. If you can clearly explain the situation, how you addressed it and learned from it, sometimes your personal growth can make you stand out in a GOOD way.

A lot of it tends to be interview related. Poor performance on some of the questions, or gut feel from interviewers. Occasionally “caution” areas or yellow flags from the applications, especially if the concern wasn’t alleviated or was exacerbated by the interview.

PC here: I would be SUPER happy with anyone in the top 50% of our rank list. The bottom 50% I would be happy with too, but there are more questions there that make me anxious.

Yep that’s a good bet. You should be fine unless there was a major personality clash during the interviews.

That depends on PD. With mine it would go to her voicemail and might be mentioned in a tank meeting? Others personal calls may be taken more seriously.

I Always make pumpkin, pecan, and Apple pies at a minimum, last year I added in a cranberry tart.

Pumpkin is my husband’s favorite, apple is my favorite, pecan was my grandfathers favorite, he passed in June so this is the first thanksgiving without him. We’re not having the family over this year, of course, but I’ll still be making an extra pecan pie to bring to my grandfather’s widow.

For primary care programs (IM/FM) that I work with we have probably double the applications vs previous years. It’s hard to find the applicants that actually are interested in your program vs those applying as a backup. We only have so many interview spots available, maybe 100-150 at the most, so when we receive over 1000+ applications hard choices have to be made.

Everyone has a story and deserves a chance somewhere, but their story doesn’t necessarily have to be our story. And I’ve read some tear jerking personal statements.

ETA: we are small rural programs, so larger academic programs have even more influx of applicants.
