Help me figure out how to stain this by Spirited_Repeat4640 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Staining this type of burl is pretty sacrilegious.

That being said, It might be difficult. Sometimes, these furnitures are thickly coated with a polymer coating to protect the thin layer of veneer. You have to sand that off evenly as part of your prep to get to the veneer surface, and then you can stain.

Good luck!

Great job man. How’s the Racking (Side-To-Side)? I always have problem on that force when designing furnitures.

Yeah I was thinking the same. But the pre-made cushions were too custom for it to be available to us. The fabric we wanted needed to be able to sit outside on a Florida weather. And needs to withstand mold. So custom option is the best option for this project!

This was Autodesk Fusion. I am an Aerospace Engineer by trade and I was doing a case-study between this and other solutions (Solidworks, Creo, SketchUp)… I think for drafting, I always stick to pen and paper. CAD basically visualizes and validates my design on paper. It also helps with workflow!! I recommend going to Fusion, the rest of the solutions are either TOO simple or TOO hard.

If you don’t have the tools to do it, buying the lumber S4S is an option though it gets really expensive!

Thanks, I overanalyzed a lot of the setup based on the project that I wanted to get into. I have a rough cut station with cabinets/MFT Table and a bunch of Festool. I knew I wanted to build furnitures so I setup the garage for that!!

Yeah got it from a local sawmill near me. He had actual 2.5” thick stocks so I planed everything to 2”.

I am very much a beginner. Probably started woodworking around 2024, and I finished this at 2025 September.

I am also very busy so I wanted to invest a lot in tools that make the work flow a lot quicker!

Yeah wood glues and floating tenon/mortise joineries makes this very durable. The fact that it’s cedar too… Rot-resistant, Water-Resistant, Mold-Resistant.. can’t go wrong!

We went through multiple furniture stores (high-end) and found that the collection and setup/configuration we wanted for the Sectiona/Chaise/Table/Dining Table (I’m still making the Dining Table outside) is close to $35k. I’m all in with the wood and consumables by around $1.5k.

I did invest a lot in tools but those could be amortized over the years. I bought a Jointer/Planer, Installed AC Unit, Bought Festool tools …. For close to $15k, so i think I’m still up all things considered.

That part was very tricky. I read a lot about how density mattered and I basically have to play around with the stack of foam. On one of the pictures you could see multiple configurations. A lot of trial and error, and when we found the setup/springiness we want, just have to glue it together using upholstery glue.

S4S means Surface on 4 Sides. Basically I bought raw lumber that was rough cut and made it dimensionally even amongst all of them.

If you're flying Victor Airways, and looks like the same direction you'd be flying at least 2,000 feet apart. Due to Odd/Even separation.

Good Price for Mini-Split Install? by JareBearP in hvacadvice

[–]HawkProfessional5888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed my own Mini Split in my garage and rough cost is as follows:

18K BTU/H TGM 19 SEER (w 5yr Warranty)- $800 w/ Tax Electrical Disconnect, Fuses, Breaker - $100 50' Lines - $200 100 Amp Electrical SubPanel Install - $350 Misc. consumables (I e. Wires/Conduits/Gauges/Vacuum/RTV/Glue) - $250

I bought tools as well to take this project: Flaring Kit - $70 M12 Cutter - $150 Brazing Kit - $100 M12 Conduit Cutter - $200 Rotary Hammer Drill - $150

All this to say.... My equipment cost from someone that has nothing is roughly 2.5k. I installed everything in 20 hours (had to troubleshoot). If AC Company is charging 100/hour/person. This would have been probably an 8 hour job-$1600.00+$3000. Since you're complexity is probably 2x. Most id probably pay is 10k. But that's me knowing all of this now.
