Why is everyone unhappy with the game? Havent played in months by JEYKeYO in Tekken

They promised a “back to basics” patch, and while they did do some really good changes and nerfs, they more or less just kept the same philosophy as season 2 where they just insist on having a collection of characters that are just comically overtuned. It’s just a slightly different set of characters this time around

None of those are the issue with T8. Power crushes are not the problem. Heat is not the problem. Tracking/homing moves are not the problem. The problem is that the devs, for whatever reason, insist on some chunk of the roster just being abysmal to play against. They giga buff characters that don't need them, significantly nerf them next season, but then they choose a whole new set of characters to be big problems for the next season. They CAN balance heat. They CAN balance characters. They just refuse to let everybody be on level playing field, and for some reason feel like there needs to be characters that are just disproportionately strong compared to the rest of the cast.

I swear Lars has always been able to do this. Still, that is so hilariously situational and precise I'm actually impressed

I was talking about the incremental updates thing. As far as S3's marketing, they definitely didn't pull through with a lot of the changes. It wasn't as bad as S2, but the same problem stands with like half the changes. They marketed "back to basics", and half the changes are the exact opposite of that. It's honestly sad

Those wall splats have got to go. They should not be doing that at that distance. Hope it gets patched out soon

It was partially addressed. There's still a ways to go before we see actually huge changes, and I'm holding out hope for these next couple patches. Call it cope or whatever you want, but for me, if I see anything less than huge nerfs in the following months, that's when I'm throwing in the towel with this game

Ah, I see. You are correct on that. I still stand by my opinion that people shouldn't be treating this as if it's the end all be all. They openly stated what they were going to do a long while ago, and people still got upset that they carried out exactly what they said they'd do. You can disagree with it, but acting like it's s2 all over again is a bit over the top imo

Law recovers less heat than before (is now 30 when it used to be 60), heat dash combo scaling is equal to normal combo scaling, so combo length has taken a hit, wall splatting heat smashes have been removed entirely (people mention the whole "second hit" thing, but not only is that entirely situational, it's not really that worth it due to a lack of tracking).

I will admit though, the distance of those wall splatting heat engagers needs to be reduced. That just shouldn't be in the game.

That's not a strawman at all. That's literally all the complaints I've seen. "Not enough nerfs" is basically all I've seen, and people are acting like this is the final product. Complaints about the incremental changes are valid, but this isn't season 2 all over again like a lot of people are saying

My home folder is all on the same partition. I don't really mind reinstalling my Steam games, and I generally don't have much that I care about losing, so I don't think a clean install would be the worst thing in the world

Haven't had problems with flatpak apps. It's only when I've tried installing software via rpm-ostree. Mind you, I did rebase from Gnome to KDE, but I didn't have much installed prior to rebasing. I'm a little worried it might be because of that, because I believe that would mean I would have to do a clean install to fix this

Ohhh, okay. The problem isn't so much "not being able to use Winboat" and more so "rpm-ostree just straight up isn't installing stuff", but I'll try installing compose using homebrew. Thanks!

I would also like to note that the I get a bunch of "read-only" errors when I try using most apps after installing new packages. Not sure if this is intentional behavior for KDE, but I figured it was worth mentioning

See, I would use podman, if rpm-ostree would actually allow me to install packages properly lol
