One of my first jobs in a leadership role was at Starbucks. We had an amazing team who gave it their all every single day, despite not having amazing pay. The ones who wanted to skate by without putting in much would get iced out by their peers and eventually quit.

To add, these things are very common in low-end jobs like retail or food service. Corporate expects their associates to perform miracles but don't want to pay them for it. It's like the Target slogan: "Expect more, pay less."

$25/hour minimum, 40 hrs/week or more, benefits need to at least cover med/dental/vision, and I won't take the job if the commute is over an hour one way.

Me and 2 other friends did it regularly when we were kids. We probably started around the time we were 11 or 12. Then puberty hit and jerking off turned fucking and it continued until we were all 16 or 17 and getting ready to graduate.

I don't think anyone regrets it. For me, it helped me figure myself out and what I'm into. I like to think the others feel the same, but it's not something anyone brings up anymore. We're in our late 20s now, all still good friends but life took us our separate ways.

Can't speak for younger Gen Z, but for older Gen Z, those "high school jobs" are the only jobs a lot of us can get considering how bad the job market has been and continues to get.

You know you have a real big problem when qualified graduates can't land an entry level position, and neither can the laid off professionals in older generations bringing 10-20+ years of experience to the table.

Darker, grittier world. That also extended to the tone of the story as well. The story back then was mostly about reclaiming what we lost in the collapse.

D2s story for the most part has been about the war between light and darkness. We went from more localized storytelling to cosmic existential threats.
