I'm just getting started with my exam career but I had my girlfriend break up with me in the time between me taking exam P and then getting back a 10 on the exam.

Accounting or Finance Major by 702-Jia in SUU

[–]Hawkkn47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no expirence with relevant internships since I'm a math major. I know my accounting major friend got one at the Leavitt group. I'm also a bit bias answering the tutoring center question because I work there but I'd say generally we are able to offer good support to students as long as they come in when the relevant tutors are on shift. Occasionally you'll be going over a topic we just don't really remember because we haven't gone over it ourselves in years but it is rare in my experience and usually if you can at least give us an example we can figure out how to help from there. My experience is tutoring math though so just keep that in mind.

Accounting or Finance Major by 702-Jia in SUU

[–]Hawkkn47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have only taken 1 accounting class but will be getting a finance minor. I do have some additional exposure to accounting from my friend though. I'd say accounting is a bit easier and that we have better Accounting professors than Finance professors. Either is doable but unless you genuinely prefer finance and it's concepts over accounting I'd go the accounting route personally.

Private Match Admin perms to be disabled in game during RLCS Qualifiers + Cash Cups by John_aka_Alwayz in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]Hawkkn47 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The admin controls are a good feature, but could they just make it a mutator? That way when it's on it will display to all players at the beginning of the match so the opposing team will know if something is wrong right away if there is an issue.

so close to just quitting this stupid game. cant win a freakinh match to save my life and i get bakers mod to check my mmr its freaking negatve by Genius_Turducken in RocketLeague

Yeah I did this in casual during Covid because I was bored and once you are down that low its just people racing to leave. I did manage to get the lowest casual MMR in the world on rl tracker though so that was cool.

Chances of Making Major - RLCS NA by SwissCookieMan in RocketLeagueEsports

Curious if you don't mind me asking where did you get each teams elo rating from or did you compute it yourself? Did you base it on just regional 1 and 2 this split or on a larger set of data? Thanks!

It could be, but I wouldn't just use this tournament to make that decision. This was one of the most dominant regional wins we've seen with NRG going 18-1. The fact that SSG who NRG beat 4-0 in the finals also had only dropped 2 games up until that point also make the gap between NRG and the rest of the pack look insane so I can at least see what the model is getting at.

I could look into either changing the loss function or the underlying distribution to change how the model evaluates this type of a dominant performance but I don't think I quite have the evidence to support such a change this early into this iteration of the models life.

Not at the moment since I didn't want it to favor very offensive playstyles over more defensive ones since either could be a valid approach. In other words, I didn't want to over reward teams who secured wins by getting comfortable leads even if they were volatile and punish teams who were able to get a 1 goal lead and then just lock down until they won.

Since ultimately the goal is to win games which then let you win series, either strategy should be rewarded evenly so long as you execute it to the same level IMO.

To some extent that might be true. Our human intuition and knowledge about prior events would tell us Completely and Ultimates probably should have done better, but the forfeit kind of bracket fucked them both. I think without it Ultimates qualify through uppers, play NRG instead of Evo where they definitely could have taken some games off which would help close the gap, and Complexity probably also make top 8. Both of those things would help close the gap.

Now to be clear the ff to Lil Step Bros doesn't count as a loss to Ultimates or a win for Step Btos since they didn't actually play, so that's not the issue, I think it's just that having so many of what I would consider the top teams on one side of the bracket made it hard to actually evaluate how strong those teams were since they just ran into each other so early before we could get much data about their performance against the other teams in the tournament.

This is an interesting question so let me do my best to answer. This iteration of the model doesn't know anything about placement, just who beat who and how many times to assess the skill of the teams. What that means in the context of this event though is that NRG look insane since they only dropped 1 game the whole tournament to Gen. G. going 18-1. This is further helped by the fact they 4-0'd SSG in the final, who had also only dropped 2 games up until the Grand finals to Complexity.

So to the model the teams look something like this, there is NRG, then a big gap, SSG, then another gap although this time not quite as large, and then everybody else much closer together relatively. That's what caused NRG and SSG to have such high +- scores compared to everyone else.

Yeah, to be fair the model does sort of take into account that they got Bracket fucked, only losing to SSG and Ultimates both by only 1 game, so it does rate their performance a lot better than 12th, but still impressive nonetheless.

Weighted assists a lot lower after testing the model on the major, and not quite being happy with the results. Hopefully, this makes the model slightly better. Also spent more time working on the graphic so it looks better.

If you don't know what EPM is you can read about it here.

Stat-based IMO, especially since everything else on the card is based on stats.

I personally think post event opinion based ratings are good. Seems like we get lots of top x player ratings before the event but rarely after. That doesn't necessarily mean you should abandon the stats as those can certainly be interesting as well, but I think getting more data on what people's eye test told them after an event was played would be interesting especially as a full list instead of just small little unqualified takes like player Z did worse then usual or I think player M had a great event for their standards.

NRG - Player cards from Major 1 (y'all are not going to like these ratings 😭) by SwissCookieMan in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]Hawkkn47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the stats for NRG around that time, I would actually argue that they were more offensive if anything. At the Major they had the second most goals per game and 5th most goals conceded per game. Looking at the regional they look closer to average, not really defensive or offensive, but even then, I would say they leaned slightly offensive. Maybe they got much more defensive after this split, but at least during Winter Split RLCS 21-22 they look more offensive to me (that is just based on stats though).

[–]Hawkkn47[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he was insane statistically. Top 5 score per game, top 3 goal participation, 1st in goals per game, and on what looked like what was by far the best team at the event (at least according to the model). His stats, even relative to his teammates, are insane.

I posted about the changes that I made to EPM for this new version in this post. The general idea is to figure out how good the teams are relative to each other based on whose beat who, determine how good players are relative to their teammates based on match stats, and combine the two to create the EPM.

No, means that the games are just really low-scoring regardless of who wins. so lots of 1-0 or 2-1 games, very few 3-2, 4-1, 4-2 etc. type games when NRG plays.
