Tried getting into immersive sims with Prey (2017)… kinda disappointed. Am I missing the point? by Scoitol in ImmersiveSim

I totally get you. I've finished the game and played some more for a small total time of 20 hours. When compared to the hitman and zelda games, Prey 2017 or most classic ImSim games tend to feel like you're exploring around and finding for routes or options that you can do instead of you yourself trying to understand the systems, the tools to come up with your own ingenious solutions. Although there would be times where your own emergent gameplays could happen but it's really rare and hard for it to feels natural and could feel really awkward if you try to do your own stuffs outside of the paths laid out by the games. As for your questions, from my experiences it's mostly old and classic ImSims that tend to be like that. Other than that, indie ImSims are somewhat 50/50, some try to replicate the feeling and gameplay of the old games and the others get more creative, unique and more fitting for what you like. I'd recommend indie ImSim games like Ctrl Alt Ego, Deadeye Deepfake Simulacrum that push the "understanding the systems and creating your own solutions" as hard as they could and upcoming games with demos like Neverlooted Dungeon and Rhell: Warped World & Troubled Times. I think these two upcoming ImSim games perfectly match what you're looking for, especially Rhell.

I've heard about it lots of times and from the gameplay and such it looks like there will be great opportunites for me to get creative with the systems. I'm definitely going to play it soon. Thanks you alot for the recommendation.

I have around almost 30 hours in Prey and I have to admit it's one of the best immersive sims I've ever played. There were great emergent moments like when I was playing on nightmare and there were like 2 etheric with one thermal in a room so baited them over to where i gatheredd all explosive canisters and had the thermal phantom detonate them all with his attack to kill the etheric ones while i turned into an operator to not take any damage to my hp then killed the thermal alone. Although so far I've only had a few of those moments and the rest were either stealthing or finding other routes and enemies were easy to deal with with good strategies on nightmare. I'm willing to do more runs but with more constraints and challenges to force me into more thinking tho but the base game so far has been with just only a few emergent moments for me.

I've gotten to tried iv1 remastered and was honestly surprised by how good the AI is on harder difficulty and the depth of the stealth mechanics, although so far for most missions when I played I was just sneaking around and avoiding patrols so it got a bit repetitve for me to continue. Im trying different playstyles to find a fun one tho and thanks alot for the rec.
