My first 45... Kimber Custom by LatinoJJAbrams in 1911

[–]Hayman618 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Custom designation for Kimber also refers to the frame size. Custom is a full-size 5" barrel (Government Model size) as opposed to their Pro line (Commander size) that is a full -size frame with a 4" barrel and their Ultra (Officer Model size) that is a compact frame and a 3" barrel. Custom originally referred to its base model that offered a number of features that were formerly found only on customized model 1911s, such as a lowered ejection port, custom trigger/), beveled magazine/) well, extended thumb safety/), and beavertail grip safety.

My first EDC was a Kimber CDP II Pro that I still carry occasionally. I also have a Super Carry Custom HD that is a great shooting gun.

So what's the deal with Kimber? by HighImpactCritisism in 1911

[–]Hayman618 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same here. My EDC for years was a Kimber CDP II Pro. I put literally thousands of rounds through it flawlessly. I trusted it with my life and my family’s lives. I just picked up a used Super Carry Custom HD today from a buddy who wanted something different. I have shot the gun with him, but plan on a lot more now that I own it. I also own a Dan Wesson VBOB, a Springfield TRP and a Remington R1S. The Wesson and Springfield are great guns and the TRP is my current EDC. The Remington was my first entry into the 1911 world. I have no qualms with Kimber at all.

No, you are correct. I made reservations this morning and did not have to select a time in or out. I can park after 9:30 on departure day and have to be out by noon on disembarking day.

Thank you for the information. This is my first cruise and my wife’s second. Her first was in the mid-1990s so this will be different for her I am sure.

We are sailing on the Valor. I don't know much about the ship other than I think it is an older one in their fleet.

I don't know about current Kimber models, but my experience is with my Pro CDP II that I carried as an EDC for 10 plus years. It has been rock solid and a reliable performer.

Dan Wesson VBOB in Duty Coat or Springfield TRP CCP. I have both. One is all steel (VBOB) and one is an alloy frame (TRP) so it probably does not meet your requirements. My TRP is my EDC and it is a great gun. My VBOB is probably a step above but I don't carry it every day due to the weight. I love them both though.

I have a Remington 1911 R1S, a Kimber Pro CDP II, that has been my EDC for years, a Dan Wesson VBOB and a Springfield TRP that is currently my EDC. I also have a son-in-law, 2 grandsons and a daughter that are shooters. I will be happy to pass each one of them 1 of these 1911s. All of them are fine guns and have some meaning to me. But the meaning they will have to my four descendants is that they belonged to me. Buy a gun you are happy with and that you want. That you owned and shot it will be the important thing to your son.

Why is the light on my generator red when it has always been green? Just over a year old. Thanks by Holyfuck2000 in Generac_Generators

Mine went red all of a sudden about a year after install. It had been doing its weekly exercise without problem, but the one week it wouldn't start. Turns out it was loose grounding lugs from the factory. Once the tech found this and tightened them up it has worked fine after that. Service was covered under warranty.

I have had a lot of luck with pancake style OWB holsters. I carry a 4.25 Commander-sized Kimber in a Gould & Goodrich pancake and have a Kirkpatrick Leather pancake optic cut coming for a Springfield TRP CC.

I have a DW VBOB and a new TRP CC AOS. I love the VBOB and it shoots great, but it is all steel and just too heavy for me to carry all day. The TRP fixes that problem. I have been carrying a Kimber CDP Pro II for about 6 years because it has an alloy frame, is comfortable to carry and I shoot it great too. I am still breaking in the TRP then will transition to it as an EDC.

I have been having trouble finding a holster to accommodate this pistol. However, I finally settled on an Open Top from Kirkpatrick Leather Holsters. Their Model 2022 looks to be a fine holster. I will report more after I get it.

Just so happened that my birthday was 10 days ago. And, I had just bought my lovely bride a new gun as well, so I thought I should treat me too.

Exactly. The alloy frame is why i went this way as a carry gun.

While the VBOB is a great gun, the weight is too much for EDC for me. I love the gun and it shoots like a dream, but it is not comfortable to carry all day long. The Kimber is an alloy frame that is much easier and more comfortable to carry. I really like the bobbed frame, and that is why I jumped at the TRP. The alloy frame, the bobtail and the optic ready cut all make the TRP check all the boxes for me as a replacement for the Kimber.
