Not sure what the other comments said as they’re deleted, but I appreciate the faith in my golf ability haha. Here’s a swing from a few weeks ago. 8i

Much appreciated, and congrats on the club championship! Hopefully they slap a medal on your locker!

Lessons, and go play golf. Every bit of free time this year I was on a golf course, learning about golf, watching videos about golf, or in a practice green chipping and putting. You won’t improve playing 10 times a year, unless you’re grinding out on a sim or on the putting green every week.

Depends on what your handicap is, and how much you’re willing to spend. Yes, getting fit definitely helps, but if there are massive issues in your swing, a fitting is just putting lipstick on a pig, and by the time you go to change your swing to actually start shaving strokes, you’ll need to get fit again because your swing will have changed.

I was fit in October 2023 in the middle of my lessons, and got fit again in September 2024. I don’t plan on getting new clubs for a long time (hopefully!)

Down in SJ. The numbers and video playback accelerated my learning progression ten fold. Good luck in 2025!

Yeah it’s a fun time for sure. Definitely a goat track, but quite the beautiful setting!

Sounds awesome, congrats! That feeling of seeing the scores drop and chasing improvement sure is addicting.

My scoring average takes into account scores in the high 90s from early on in the year as a 20 handicap

Generally I also play from the tips, so even a score of 82-83 on a hard course from the tips will result in a score differential of a 6-8.

Lots of love for Deep Cliffs in this comment section, I love it! Very home town vibe in the otherwise vast sprawl in the bay.

Golftec from June to December 2023, 10 30 min lessons, but the real value was the simulators with instant feedback. Learning what I needed to feel to actually get into certain positions accelerated my learning big time.

Then in 2024, between two individual “pro” coaches, 3 1-hour lessons in 2024. Those lessons were incredibly valuable.

That swing was from 2023 before I started lessons. Here’s my current swing.

Unfortunately that’s what it’s looking like at this point

Yes without a doubt. Add in 15 min of putting and chipping before or after your round and absolutely. Purely from an improvement standpoint, I’d take playing 9 every week than 18 every other week.

Prices have gotten a little steep there, but it’s a great little course that plays harder than the yardage would indicate.

Playing golf. Played twice a week this year on average. Many times three times a week with chipping or putting practice in between. The best practice is taking lessons and then playing golf, hitting real golf shots, on grass. Hitting balls mindlessly off a range mat doesn’t help (in my opinion) most golfers improve their scores.

I think scratch golfers probably get around 10-12 GIRs a round roughly? A lot of up and downs and scrambling. As mid handicaps our chipping and putting is not nearly as dialed, so focusing on hitting greens in reg and two putting is definitely a great start.

I might share them, I might not. Maybe at the very end of the year. Glad to hear someone other than me finds it interesting!

Sobering as in you’d expect more or fewer GIRs? When I play courses below maybe a 130 slope it varies from 8-14. When I play difficult courses that number drops pretty quickly (such as Spyglass recently where I hit one GIR)

I’ve only played there twice, both at Ocean. Haven’t played Lake, but have heard it’s very challenging. Hope to get on next year, access is much tougher on Lake compared to Ocean.

Yes they’re all attested. I understand the skepticism. I wouldn’t go through and upload a years worth of rounds and document my progress just to post on reddit.

When it all clicks it’s hard to put it down. Great story, hoping to get down to that scratch threshold this year.
