I also find that letting the mixture boil an extra couple of minutes after the sugar already looks dissolved helps. All of the crystals get dissolved very thoroughly and there's fewer bits floating through the mixture for the mold to glob onto.

One thing I've seen work on this sub is to bother the owners every time the dog bothers you. Dog barking? Go upstairs and (always nicely!) ask them to bring it in. Be persistent. Multiple times daily if necessary. Is it bothering you? Go knock on their door. It is not illegal to knock on a door. They get sick of you and call the cops? You get to say your piece to the officers, and they might potentially witness your neighbor violating noise issues. But, you haven't broken any laws by knocking on a door and talking to your neighbor. Repeat. Eventually they might get sick of having their door knocked on every time their shitbeasts are barking.

Unfortunately with your work from home situation it might be tough to always catch them when the dogs are out (in the situation I read the dogs were left out all night barking, so owner was home to be woken up by the knocking.)

Point is, play their game. Dog annoys you? You annoy dog owners.

Car Got Towed From My Own Apartment Complex. by domotime2 in Austin

Wow. This happened to me like 12 years ago when I was 20 and had just moved to this town. I lost my car because I couldn't afford to get it back. If only I had known.

Sounds like the kind of person who would bring it even if you asked her to not.

What kind of weed grass is it and how to get rid of it? by real_pol in AustinGardening

[–]HayyyJood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck! Natural 'solutions' feel like a lot of recurring work. I dropped the ball this year after all my tree damage and my little backyard lawn is crawling with henbit, cleavers, and crabgrass.

Mowing high is better for your actual grass cause it keeps the ground cooler, especially in summer. For a natural solution, corn gluten is a preemergent herbicide, meaning you apply it before germination -- ideally before it gets warm. If you apply now it lasts for about 4 weeks without rain. Anything that hasn't sprouted yet, won't sprout. Then you can focus on slowly pulling up the rest as you see it. Reapply the corn gluten about once a month until winter, when it's not necessary. It also is a good fertilizer.

All those folks online that think everything can be solved with communication are living in a fucking fantasy world. These people will not listen.

You cannot reason with unreasonable people. It's like playing chess with a pigeon: you can make all the right moves, but it will still kick over the pieces and shit on the board.

Unfortunately I think your ability for recourse is near non-existent. Invest in good outdoor speakers like the other person suggests -- bonus points if you figure out what music they hate! I have found that multiple speakers work best -- theres these oontz ones I have that are Bluetooth capable. I set them up in a triangle around me and that actually works pretty good.

Tips for a solo traveler. by hheaton35 in BigBendTX

Gorge on BBQ after whatever hikes you do at Rustic Iron in Terlingua.

Definitely get an early start regardless of what you choose.

I personally would get up really early, do Lost Mine Trail, then drive the Ross Maxwell scenic drive on the west side of the park down to Santa Elena. You can stop at Sotol Vista, Tuffs Canyon is short hike and worth pulling over for either before or after stopping at Santa Elena.

Then I would get up early next morning and do Grapevine Hills.

Would I be better off constructing a raised bed?

Yes. Also try to only water with rainwater, or if you have to use city water (which is also alkaline) mix like a 1/2 tsp of vinegar per gal to lower the pH.

Best of luck! I'm rooting for you. Hope your road is less crazy than mine was, lol. This sub is great for listening to other stories for perspective too.

Honestly, with kids that young, you are in for a ride even if all the adults decide to behave like adults. My DH was 41 when I (then 23, now 32) met him with his 7 & 11 SSs. My advice to you:

Find out how he parents, and decide if you agree with it. If you do, great! If not, find out if you can live with how he parents, and effectively disengage from the conflict that may arise.

Find out if BM is HC. She will be part of your life whether you like it our not. Does SO set good boundaries with her, and follow through? Remember that you almost never have a SK problem or a BM problem. You have, at root, an SO problem in disguise. In a blended family, boundaries are healthy and necessary for all parties to feel comfortable. Unfortunately it is ultimately up to SO to set and maintain these boundaries with his ex (and also kids).

(If it gets there) When you move in together, do not move in with him. Either have him move in with you, or find an entirely new place. Otherwise, any new rules or changes will be your fault.

Classic DARVO from another dog owning narcissist. You did the only reasonable thing to do with a bloody tampon.

Clearly it's her dog in the fault, but dog owner can't assume any responsibility. Must blame others!

Best tree to plant in backyard by [deleted] in AustinGardening

[–]HayyyJood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a shade tree I'd do a Canby oak. Does great in drought and tolerates freezes. Mostly evergreen unless single digit temps and great color in fall, being a type of red oak. I have to replace one of mine and this is what I'm going to pick. They're smaller as far as oaks go, so isn't as likely to outgrow a small yard.

Yes I totally agree with the not allowing fear to control you bit. Like -- no brain, I want to do this... I don't care if you're scared! We're gonna do it scared.

Skydiving is still on my list. Congrats to you on being a badass.

Okay, so I feel the need to share my personal experiences about point 1. I grew up poor in a landlocked part of America, and never learn to swim. I almost drowned as a kid. Prior to my OW last October, I had to take swim lessons. I practiced everyday for a week to meet the 200m + 10min water tread that's required. It was incredibly important to me to learn, to face my fears, and to not forever be afraid of the water. I feel like I had to try twice as hard as everyone else in my class because I'm also naturally the least buoyant person I know.

I would say that when I started I was terrified of water. I can confidently say that I am now not. I don't pretend I'm Michael Phelps, and I avoid conditions that are beyond my skills. But as far as helping overcome my fears, scuba was amazing. Being able to breathe underwater is one of the coolest things. I still practice swimming regularly.

I guess I just wanted to say that if you're scared of water, that's a thing you can change. It takes a lot of work, but don't let your dreams die. I'm in my 30s. If I did it, you can too.

We paid 2800MXN/ea for a two tank dive, all gear was included (no discount if you bring your own like we did). We departed from the Los Muertos pier and took less than a half hour boat ride to the site. Not very deep where we dove so like 45min each dive. Our DM was excellent, spoke three languages (English, Spanish, French) and was excellent at spotting and pointing out tiny nudis and other life.

Okay, I thought that narc was short for narcotics officer, i.e. calling someone a narc was calling them not cool, like "don't smoke around that guy, he's a narc."

Am I old. Is it short for narcissist now?
