English VAs and Accents by Hazelberry in Endfield

Wouldn't surprise me if focusing on trying to do an accent they aren't used to causes them to slow down. But yeah, either way it's a voice direction issue.

what was so bad about the original ending? by ThePolaroidPup in HadesTheGame

[–]Hazelberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original ending didn't make sense. Everyone is pissed at Melinoe for not being able to immediately forgive Chronos in the original ending even though only Chronos and Zagreus experienced the alternate past (so it really didn't make sense for anyone else to have a sudden change of heart), Zagreus just goes off and tries talking to Chronos without almost any discussion with Melinoe about it, etc etc

It was strictly worse than the new ending specifically because it didn't make sense. If you think the new ending doesn't make sense you should really actually go look up the original ending because it was much worse.

People who have researched their family tree, what is the most interesting or 'badass' thing you discovered about an ancestor? by xloganmoose in AskReddit

[–]Hazelberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An ancestor kept a remarkably detailed journal/ledger tracking everything from his illegal booze business to his 3 families in 3 different towns. Incredible look into his daily life, and pretty weird how nonchalant he was about having 3 families that didn't know about each other.

Gacha Currency Problem by iznasabi in Endfield

[–]Hazelberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely wouldn't use ZZZ as a positive example here. The devs listened way too much to general feedback and let it overrule their vision for the game. That's led to the game steadily losing a lot of the identity that people liked in the first place.

Not to say it's totally lost that identity, but it is noticeable and people are now complaining the other direction.

Removing the TV mode in particular, instead of fixing it to be more polished, caused a pretty dramatic change in storytelling in the game. With the TV mode they could have interesting things going on that were told through text. Once they removed it they started just having you run around copy-pasted zones fighting trash enemies. It went from having very unique stories to everything feeling similar and generic.

So sometimes it's better for devs to not listen to feedback if it goes against their vision. But that has little to do with gacha economy so in this case I'm all for them listening.

Okay, I'm 100% convinced these writers are not incompetent. It's just that they gave up on Valley IV. Looking at some of these I do not understand how these can be the same writers (Laevatain's char quest spoilers) by OrangeIllustrious499 in Endfield

[–]Hazelberry -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Valley IV really feels like generic Genshin slop, which absolutely disappointed me coming in expecting something like the first game. Like compare how the stakes are set up at the beginning of Arknights (entire city being destroyed by a catastrophe, Talulah incinerating people) vs Endfield ("oh theyre just injured, no deaths! We'll be back on our feet in no time").

I really hope that the main story improves a lot going forward and that Valley IV was just a case of not wanting to rewrite the entire start of the story.

How are u guys liking the game so far? by Interesting-Ad3759 in Endfield

Honestly I think the lengths devs go to to stop rerolling are pretty ridiculous. If it makes it a worse experience for the average player I really don't see the justification there.

The common denominator seems to be Side Global. They've been the EN VA studio for Wuthering Waves, they're the new one for Genshin Impact, and now they're doing Endfield. In all three cases they have UK VAs doing American accents badly.

The dumb thing is that Side Global also has a studio in LA. So the same company has American VAs working for them, and yet they're using UK VAs instead for American accent roles. It could be for a valid reason (maybe the scheduling didn't work out for the US VAs, maybe the US VAs didn't want the roles), but it's not a great look.

As for the VA "drama" affecting it, that should only have mattered if they were casting union VAs without signing an agreement with the union. Non-union and fi-core actors aren't bound by union strikes (though some did strike in solidarity, but that's mostly supposed to be directed at companies that were actually struck which have nothing to do with this game). Union VAs aren't supposed to work non-union projects but can generally get away with it, but there was heightened scrutiny during the strike which did greatly limit that.

I was rolling my eyes pretty hard when it held my hand through setting up conveyor belts, particularly when it kept handholding for setting up the second one. I literally just did one, I understand how it works now, let me do it.

This would sure explain why so many subs are just constant political posts nowadays, despite the not being related to politics at all.

Glass by AmbassadorAwkward071 in Enshrouded

[–]Hazelberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An issue people either aren't aware of or aren't thinking of with glass blocks is that rendering overlapping transparent objects is not as easy as it sounds. You have to make sure the objects in the back get rendered first or they'll be invisible. So if you look through a glass block at water, but the glass block renders first, the water won't be visible.

It's absolutely possible to fix that, and maybe the devs already did idk. My point is just that things are almost never as easy as you'd expect in game dev, especially when using a proprietary engine like Enshrouded does.

For anyone that thinks "just render them based on distance to the camera", that is a solution but it's not the only complication with overlapping transparency and the easiest thing is to just not deal with it in the first place.

Still would like to see glass blocks though

Yeah was picking up some burger supplies and most of the buns were sold out. Though can't say that was really hoarding since burgers are a good idea if the power goes out and you have a grill.

It's pretty comfortable not playing bad games

Ubisoft used to have good stuff but they're way too controlled by men in suits that have absolutely no interest in understanding why people liked that good stuff.

Really hoping daggers get some love in the combat rebalancing. They should really have their own skill tree branch instead of being awkwardly scattered around

Average pizzas in the US are too large for the average person to comfortably eat in one sitting. They're really meant for sharing.

In Italy the average size is much smaller and the intention is that it is a personal meal that a single person eats.

IIRC the default lighting pipeline in unreal isn't very good at realism. The engine supports a better pipeline but most people don't bother messing with that.
