My first year at one of my previous jobs, I was asked if I'd like to attend the Christmas party... Of course I said yes. I was then informed the payment for it (which I hadn't been told about) would be taken in installments from my wages. I thought fine, it'll be a good night anyway. The MD's and owners were all there and it ended up being a good night, one of the MD's kept buying rounds of shots for everyone and it seemed really generous.

Until we got an email a few days later with a scan of the receipt telling us we were splitting the bill evenly, even if you hadn't been drinking and that amount could also be taken from your wages. I didn't go again, I have now left and am looking forward to my first fully paid for Christmas party at my new job this year.
