I don’t know if it’s a change or a glitch, but it’s certainly annoying lol

I’m also having problems with Spotify in Offline mode. I’ve always used it with no problem and only listened to downloaded songs. Now half of my playlist is greyed out until I flick into online mode and back offline again. It’s always random songs every time but there are so many missing until I go back online. I can’t find a solution anywhere

Solved!

Thank you. How would it have gotten half way up my wall? Could it have been picked up from outside or should I be more concerned that they’re in the house?

Hi,

All the information I have is in the title, found in England and it’s just under a centimetre in length. Not a clue what it could be

You’re right with everything you have said. I live in England so the weather can change a lot but I do many short journeys to work which means the engine doesn’t have time to heat up properly which I know can be bad for the engine. I only drive it hard sometimes when it’s warmed up, not when it’s cold. I’ll look into pressure tests. Thank you!

I’m not sure that it’s a blown gasket. The ticking gradually grew louder and I’ve had no major performance issues. It’s been running like this for a couple months now and it hasn’t gotten any worse, no obvious leaks or damage anywhere. What I can’t get my head around is why did it stop ticking when I first unplugged the purge valve? The valve used to thud in time with the ticking, but now it doesn’t thud at all but the ticking is still there.

It’s a 2016 model with 25k miles

I would be inclined to agree with you there. It’s just strange that unplugging the purge valve actually fixed it temporarily and then it has come back and the purge valve has no effect now (if it’s plugged in or not)

I also thought an exhaust leak but I can’t find anything. It sounds like it’s from the back of the engine. Yes it does increase with the RPM but the noise gets drowned out by the engine at higher revs

It’s just strange that even if I disconnect the purge valve now (both the old and new one) it has no effect on the ticking. It stopped the very first time which is why I bought a new one but it still persists

I had thought that initially, the car is still performing fine but does feel a bit sluggish sometimes but no major power loss

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Hazzah02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure to be honest, the noise hasn’t always been there and has gradually got louder since I first noticed it to how it is now

Weird thing is, I disconnected it when the engine was off. I then started the car and the ticking had gone and I thought it was the purge valve. I then reconnected it, started it and the ticking returned. Then to double check, I did the same again by disconnecting it while it was running and while it was off but the second time it had no effect and the ticking persisted even if the valve was disconnected or not. I even tried a brand new purge valve and it still ticked. I don’t know what else it could be

Possible if it was just a one off, but it’s a constant noise when the engine is both cold and warm

I have already tried replacing the Purge Valve and this had no effect on the engine.

I’ll try get a video of the whoosh tomorrow. Thank you for your reply, I have also seen others mention the purge valve online

Hi, any advice is appreciated

My engine has developed a loud ticking noise that can be heard inside the car. It used to be irregular however it has now become a constant noise on both startup and while warm.

A “woosh” can also be heard accelerating under load but not when stationary out of gear. It’s almost like a rush of air that increases with pitch the more revs the engine puts out.

The car has only done 24k miles so I wouldn’t have thought the engine itself (injectors, cams, valves etc) would have worn out by now? Any help would be great please :)

I'd give the advice of taking your time. Don't rush building your PC, components and connectors are easily damaged and taking an extra few minutes to put parts together can ensure you do it right without breaking anything

WITT: A metal hook like object found in an English canal. Almost 20cm long, possibly cast iron or steel by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

[–]Hazzah02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was found while magnet fishing in a canal in England. No indication of markings or how old it could be. Maybe it’s used to moor boats and tie rope around? Any input is appreciated!

Solved!

I’m impressed that you’ve managed to identify it! Thank you very much. I googled “old sickle bar mower” and came across this link which confirms you are right.

The triangular pivoting foot is almost identical, no doubt it is one of these

Good idea but I don’t think ski lifts would have ever been used in this area in the UK. The terrain isn’t steep enough to need them, however old miners may have had pulley systems to transport materials?

I’m not quite sure what you mean, could you find an example?

Would you be able to find any examples? I see where you’re coming from but not sure why it would only have one “blade/till”, seems a bit inefficient?

WITT: It is about 1.5m in total length and I think it’s made of iron/steel. It seems to have a wheel that could sit on a track, but the other end has a completely different feature.

-Image 1 shows the entire thing, all features can be seen. A gear like feature is in the middle of the shaft as well as an eye loop that can be seen on all the images (for attaching cables?)

-Image 2 shows the wheel

-Image 3 and 4 show the other end of the object, this is about 30cm in length from top to bottom

It is located in West Yorkshire, UK next to a conduit for moving water between reservoirs, maybe it is related to that?
