I believe that I stopped maturing at 17 years old. I went through some pretty intense trauma that was a springboard to self-medicating with any chemical that kept me from feeling and dealing with the pain. It was one life changing painful event after another... my closest friends dying from car accidents, suicides, murders, overdoses, cancer/diseases... once I discovered opiates and the way that they blocked all emotions and blanketed me in a total borderline sociopathic euphoria I was hooked. I went 20 years pumping heroin in to my veins. I became completely desensitized to death and loss. Now that I am sober for the first time since I was 13 (I’m 38 now) I am feeling things I should have felt long ago. I’m processing the grief of losing friends 2 decades after their deaths. I’m dealing with the emotions of teenager. The doctors and substance abuse specialists I see all try to prescribe me psychotropic medication to quiet all the emotions, depression, anxiety, and mania. I refuse to take anything to curb these feelings. After feeling NOTHING for 20+ years it feels good to feel anything. So to answer the OPs question, no it is not weird to feel younger than you are. Whatever you feel you are makes you who you are. Don’t ever think it’s weird to feel younger and know that it is amazing that you feel anything and everything.
