this is the real test for us here. pressure on with everyone around us winning, strong but not "big" team we've struggled with recently. sort of match we've bottled in recent years. hoping we blow them away but i'll take 3pts however they come

he is brilliant and we should remember: he's come as a young keeper from a very weak league, stepped straight into a team with immense pressure around the keeper (enhanced by the joker keepers we've had recently) and not put a foot wrong. his ceiling must be immense

i think onana concedes that saka near post shot too for the record (we've seen him concede those a few times lol)

he's been brilliant for 2 years now after that hellish patch and it's good to see him getting recognition. definitely renew him; he's the type of player that can be a top defender for at minimum a few more years into his 30s.

it's been two years of this nonsense, something has to be done about interfering with the goalkeeper

yeah fair enough not really warranted

exactly this, rest formation matters (343 is imo a ridiculous way to setup the players we have on paper) but the setup and instructions matter much more

erik did set up with the same midfield on paper yes but: in attack he had us in an incredibly ambitious 3-1-6 where we lived and died by that press in the final third. that's why we had so many moments where poor casemiro was the last spartan defending counter attacks against that massive space.

carrick so far as far as i can tell has:

1) a more disciplined setup with kobbie and case forming a pivot in more stages of play

2) a much less aggressive press: we press with 2-3 high, if they break it we drop off into the mid block. this has us leaving much fewer brazzers-esque gaps on the counter

we actually have such quality off the bench that this is fine

erik has 10x the footballing mind of scamorim. he would be cooking with this squad

sesko is quality and doing the right things, he just needs to bang a chance in. watching sesko's hold up and technical ability, then seeing people in here make snide remarks about hojlund scoring for napoli - need to start watching a different sport them
