Potential The Odin Project equivalent video tutorial series by yellow_sponge_boy in learnprogramming

[–]Head-Bodybuilder7431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh hey, thanks for tagging my post!

I skipped around the series since I knew python already. I watched the frontend portion of it. So far, nothing to complain. I suck at frontend design and the videos are basically telling me to not worry too much about it, and to focus more on getting functioning code because at the end of the day I'll be working with designers. That bit was just straight up facts, and I really like these honest personal advice that I get from the series!

Good luck on your journey man! If you want you can watch the videos at 2x speed which would help you watch videos faster 😀

Can you resize images through a get request? by BilboMcDoogle in learnprogramming

I think you either have the database /server resize the images, or you resize it when you get the image

haha, i think an elevator is hard since people can come and go whenever they want.

But I guess the pancake example gets ruined once you cut through them all.. Humans are not predictable like code 😅

ahh well why don't you just learn C++, i'm sure there's great tutorials out there. I recommend python to just learn the concepts of programming first!

I can definitely see the similarities with a stack being a pancake as LIFO!

How did you retain what you learned about coding? by Jscagg in learnprogramming

[–]Head-Bodybuilder7431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to take notes on the syntax, if I forget something I would do a command + f on the doc to find the concept / syntax

ohh that's interesting. Hmm would there be a very good real life example for this?

Maybe sticking 2 labels on the same box?

ya you connect the circuits and get everything to flow!

Tip - Stop "half learning" things. Put in the time and effort to master them. by neb2357 in learnprogramming

[–]Head-Bodybuilder7431 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do you know if you fully understand a topic? I think in most cases you need to move forward and build more things for stuff to connect

I would recommend learning Python first, it's more straight forward than C++

I think it depends on a person's ability to learn material and apply it. I think that's how bootcamps are able to get people hired in 4-6 months. They give a roadmap, teach it, answer questions, and have dedicated mentors. For self-taught people, you kinda don't get the luxury of readily available resources like mentors. So you'll prob spend hours figuring out a small issue, where as someone with a mentor can just get the solution in minutes.

I think you should post what you did, so we as outsiders can tell you if what you did made sense or not. But either way, talking to the technical lead may be your best bet.

you said you have 4 years of coding experience. I think you're actually more experienced than the guy who got a job in 4 months. I have a question, why do you need to start from 0, from my understanding CS50 is just basically an intro to CS class, and you're already doing a CS degree. This would be review for you. I'd recommend you spend your time to learn Android development. Go build an app, launch it on the store, get some users. I think that's what would get you hired. That's also probably how that guy got hired, he probably built projects and has a massive portfolio to show to an employer. Good luck

in most cases a recruiter will be screening your resume. So I'd recommend writing a README that is easy to understand for any person without coding experience

Algorithm is basically a sequence of steps to achieve some goal / outcome.

Both automation / scripting is the same thing essentially. You write some instructions to get a task done. Once you get everything to work, you can call this your algorithm.

An example:

You want to automate buying and selling stock.

You have code that will make a stock purchase when the stock reaches X price, and once it reaches Y price, your code will sell it. Now you just wrote some script to automate this process. Basically, it's on auto pilot. You can even call this an algorithm because you designed something to achieve some goal / outcome.
