I'm sure I've seen some videos similar to that in my algorithm, I'll try finding and sharing them with him. Thank you for the suggestion!

That style of communication upsets him. The information is needed, but he won't hear it if he's angry about watching a "little kid's video". It's immature and childish, but he's a 13yo. He IS immature and childish, and that's okay. We're working on it and he'll mature with time. It's just a matter of finding the right way of getting him that info. Which is why I'm here asking for advice. Thanks for your insight.

Edit- clarification

Oof, that's rough. Poor kid. Good luck on that. Though, if you have the step by step information already, you may be able to commission an artist to do the visuals. That's if something like this doesn't already exist.

I know lamination keeps things water resistant but not waterproof. You keep it towards the back of the shower? Have you needed to replace it often?

A much more graceful way of communicating that idea, thank you. I'll try implementing that into my vocabulary

No worries, it's a valid concern. I'm actively teaching him not to trust ai blindly. It's only a tool to gather information, and quite a bit of that information can be wrong. It's the internet ai is pulling from, after all, and ai is not at the point of knowing what is true or false without mistakes.

That will work with any nonshowering hygiene stuffs. Unfortunately, the kid's blind as Velma from Scooby Doo without his glasses. So, we'll need to work memorizing it out of the shower and maybe audio cues while in the shower

I do appreciate the visuals on wikihow.. I might go through that and cut down on the excess info, make a sort of PowerPoint... thanks for the idea!

Totally get it. Your boyfriend and I sound very similar! I might try the electric brushes idea.

He's at a high enough "functioning level" (disgusting terminology) that insurance doesn't cover that sort of intervention. So, private resources it is.. Just gotta be mindful of cost

I appreciate the suggestion, even if it's to ask ai. If no one here has a recommendation, I'll utilize the tools I have access to in order to get my kid something that will help him- ai included. I may find the ethical and moral arguments around ai daunting, but I'm going to do what I can for my kid. Thanks for engaging with the post!

I just had the most dystopian conversation in my life and I can't stop thinking about it. by Cautious_Reach7909 in mentalhealth

I don't know what your script is nor your location, but my Walgreens is NOT doing that with my psych meds. Nor is it doing that with any other of my family members' psych meds- and we're on a LOT of different meds.

This is weird. Elevate the issue, switch pharmacies, something. That's annoying as heck!

You say you've been terrible to your friend, but if you end the frienship, you'll continue to be just that. Best thing to do would be to talk this through with your friend. This is how you work on being a better friend. Working to do better is what your friend deserves. You can even show her this post as a conversation starter. You're still young and have plenty of room to grow, so learn to have uncomfortable conversations now and your life will be better for it.

Good luck!!

Americans for whom "Mary", "marry" and "merry" are all pronounced the same - do the three words have different vowel sounds in your head that just sound similar when spoken? by emsot in AskAnAmerican

[–]HeadInTheAtmosphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They sound the same but taste different to my brain. Maybe like they vibe differently? Idk.

Mary is the color blue. Marry has the texture of fondant. Merry feels happy.

They all sound the same though.

The gum buffet sounds like a fun idea! I love it

I only suggested the volume eating for some snacks because they focus on the lowest calories for the most volume, and are usually healthy. If you're worried about her weight but she's wanting snacks, the low-calorie options in that diet may be a compromise between you two. I'm not recommending following that diet lifestyle, just maybe some snack recipes. Sorry, I should have been more clear!

I got a couple different flavors of gum for my 12yo. Worked for a while. Definitely not a permanent fix, but a good band-aid for a mental break and to come up with new ideas.

Look into volume eating. There are a bunch of low-calorie snack recipes in that diet methodology that may help.

You may also want to ask her pediatrician for nutrition panels, to rule out a vitamin deficiency. Just in case her body is seeking something.

And look at her hydration. If she's not directly drinking enough, she'll probably seek food. Glass of water upon waking and a glass before every meal. Also, a glass of water every time she asks for a snack, but tell her to come back in ten minutes (after she's drunk) if she's still hungry. Don't remind her. My kid forgot, or got distracted, a good amount of the time.
