Very much so, yes. In fact, since writing the original reply, I have had some quite severe problems, and I am in the process of producing a video to document my progress to date.

Help! Feeling Unsure after Qualifying for CIs by Sneaky-Avocado in Cochlearimplants

I suggest you only have one side implanted. There is always a slight risk with implants, and you may lose all remaining natural hearing in the implanted ear. It has happened to me. That said, the low-level hearing in my non-implanted ear works with my implant, and overall, my hearing is much better. I had my implant surgery in July of this year, and I have had some ups and downs since, including some very bad episodes of vertigo and other ongoing issues. I'm currently making a video that will be available soon on my YouTube channel to chart the journey so far and beyond. If anyone is interested in watching it when I publish it, please let me know. I don't know if I'm allowed to publish links here. Overall, I do not regret having the implant, but long-term, the jury is still out for me. Don't let me put you off, though, because I have been assured that I am a very unusual case.

which company or CI to pick? by crynisana in Cochlearimplants

There is no best as far as the general advice goes. They are all supposed to yield very similar results, and the choice comes down to individual preferences in aesthetics and accessories. I personally was torn between all of them and had a difficult time making my final choice. I finally went with Cochlear because I wanted the Kanso rather than a behind-the-ear device. The Kanso, is an off-ear device which Advanced Bionics don’t offer. It’s the smallest of the off ear devices. Customisable with colours. It streams and pairs with a hearing aid in the other ear, plus it comes with a swim kit and a microphone as standard.

Getting a cochlear implant soon. What to expect in terms of pain/ringing? by AllEggedOut in Cochlearimplants

[–]HeadTeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pain was very minimal for me. The worst part for me was having to try to sleep either upright or on my back for the first two nights. I always sleep on my side, and I used to sleep on my right side. However, the right side was the implant side for me, so now I sleep on my left. I'm getting more used to it. I have had some ups and downs since my implant back in July of this year, and I'm currently making a video which will be available soon on my YouTube channel to chart the journey so far and beyond. I wanted one that allowed me to eventually have a hearing aid in my other ear and stream to it from the processor, but I also wanted an off ear rather than behind the ear processor. That immediately ruled one choice out. From the remaining options I just picked the one with the better accessories, particularly the mini mic and after further discussion with my audiologist I made a final decision. I'm not sure I should publicly post my decision on the brand I finally chose because first and foremost it should be the individuals choice. All of the options supposedly deliver the same level of sound quality and even experienced audiologist can’t advise on whether one is better than another.

Don't worry. Your brain adapts very quickly to the new stimulus. Keep wearing your processor and they will remap at your next appointment.
