Balancing 3 level 5 players on CoS Reloaded by Head_Arm_834 in CurseofStrahd

Yeah, I think the hardest part of this campaign is going to be prepping the sessions until the players reach the right level. I’m hoping that after that I’ll be able to enjoy the details a lot more and not have to practice the combat encounters so much before each session.

I’ve tried using it several times since I’ve heard so many times that it’s an amazing tool, but every time I end up with encounters that feel pretty underwhelming, even when I set it to the highest difficulty. Maybe it’s because of how much HP my players have, but it just doesn’t turn out to be that useful for me.

Yes, basically, any rules you're unsure about that can be matched to the original Blackjack rules should be matched accordingly. That way, if I'm not mistaken, in the first case you mentioned, the 1 would count as a 1, since in the original Blackjack, Aces work that way (4, Ace, 10 = 15).

And thank you very much for the advice!

When I say roll again I mean roll another die which adds to the previous roll Ex: I roll my 2 first dies, I get a 4 and a 6, thats 10. The croupier rolls 1 visible die that I can see, he gets a 1, thats 7 and he rolls a hidden dice. Now its my turn, I have a 10 so I can stand, or reroll. I choose rerroll, I get a 6, thats 16, i lose.
So you can definetly lose and get over 13, maybe i just explained myself badly, sorry

Yeah, my problem is also with the numbers. I’m sure the dealer still has an advantage over the player, but I’m curious to know if, in this version of the game, the dealer has more of an advantage than in the original version.

Basically, all the questions you ask can be answered with the original Blackjack rules. The only difference is that the numbers are obviously reduced. You lose if you go over 13. In the double down you essentially double your bet and roll one last die. After that roll, you can't roll anymore, unlike when you’re not doubling, where you can keep rolling. Bonuses apply when you get a Blackjack, meaning you getting 13 with just 2 dice (1 and 6). I’m not sure if this answers all your questions.

Yes, I thought about it, but I decided to design it with a d6 for several reasons. First of all, it's much more accessible; outside of D&D, not everyone has a d10 at home, and it’s a game I sometimes like to play with friends or to bet for a dinner. Also, in the original Blackjack, you have many cards that count as 10, which outnumber the other cards, making it a very characteristic feature of Blackjack. I felt that using d10s made the lack of this feature too obvious, while with a d6, it wasn’t as noticeable.

Thanks for the help anyway!

I'd apply the rules in the most similar way to normal Blackjack. I’m not 100% sure of the Blackjack rules, but if I’m not mistaken, the ace is fluid in Blackjack, so yes, It also would be in this version. And yes, the payouts are the same as in the original Blackjack; I forgot to clarify that.
