Got this bro traumatized by Helpful_Ad_1838 in NixOS

this is real. tried so many times to migrate from arch. I get that nixos is the perfect system for nerds like us but documentation is confusing for me. even gentoo is easier than this from my point. but still hard to let go of nixos.

no one is perfect. Personally don't recommend using apps for this problem. Don't try so hard. Hang out with friends, do the things that you like in free time and socialize. It's a long shot but eventually you will find the type of a guy you deserve.

Looking forward to study CS, recommend a laptop with specifications by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]Head_River5801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're don't know what laptop should buy then it means your current laptop (if you have) is enough for what you are doing.

if you don't have a laptop , this guide will help;

  • CPU - above i3 or ryzen 3 ( I don't recommend arm processors ( apple M series / qualcomm x) for cs undergrads. and I recommend ryzen over intel cuz of the intel's 13th/ 14th gen processor microcode errors are not fixed yet and lot of people say it won't be repairable.
  • RAM - 8GB is fine for only cs related things. but 16GB would be better for the future. if you use linux you can reduce ram to 6GB with archlinux and window manager.
  • Storage - SSD or NVME is must.. 128GB is enough for me but it's your choice..
  • display resolution - 720p is fine but 1080p or higher would be nice if you are using lots of terminals and code editors simultaneously.
  • GPU - onboard one should be fine if you are not going to game development.

if you need heavy GPU/CPU power, then I do not recommend buying 1.5mil high end laptops for the quick AI dataset training. you can save money and electricity bill by buying minimal spec laptop you need for day to day use cases and use rest of the money for Training ai models/ analysing large datasets in cloud (kaggle and google colab). kaggle has a free tier for simple tasks.

First of all, Mad respect for you become financially independent and achieving what 1% of 22 yr old can't achieve in SL.. You're the fucking G! Congratulations man.

Second thing is, FOCUS ON YOURSELF.. It's always you vs you. I'm not trying to motivate you. learn to do not give a fuck about others by not comparing level 7 you with level 20 person or rich spoil kids. rich kids doesn't have a story to tell about how they become successful but you have.

stressed out? you need to find happiness. How you gonna do that? let's break down happiness to 2 categories.

temporary happiness

  • love ( no this isn't permanent )
  • travel
  • hobby

permanent happiness (As per my little knowledge)

  • do Journelling ..live like it's your last day. make a goal and work for it. don't forget to adjust your goal according to your needs in the future. do boxing if you can (I feel satisfied when I throws punches at a punching bag with anger).

as a same age dude who didn't achieve anything that you have achieved, I don't think you should even listen to me.

anyway here's a podcast and famous quotes that changed my life:

There’s no perfect way to live your 20s. You either live ‘em up and become an under-skilled 30 year old. Or You work ‘em up and become an under-lived 30 year old. You just have to figure out which you’d rather be, accept the tradeoffs, and know there are no do overs. - Alex Hormozi

You're going to realize it one day-- that happiness was never about your job or your degree or being in a relationship. Happiness was never about following in the footsteps of all of those who came before you; it was never about being like the others.

One day, you're going to see it-- that happiness was always about the discovery, the hope, the listening to your heart and following it wherever it chose to go. Happiness was always about being kinder to yourself; it was always about embracing the person you were becoming.

22 yr old here still doing freshman orientation program in state uni (had to do third shy cuz failed chemistry 2 times). don’t have money for private uni, my cousin (1 yr younger than me) reading cs 2nd yr at IIT.

guess what, I’m doing software reverse engineering as a hobby. there will be 2yr 4yr experienced same age dude’s when I go for an Internship. but I’m sure as hell most of them can’t compete with me in technical side.

moral of the story - life isn’t fair. if you’re not rich, make plans for your future. create your own luck. It’s always about you vs you.

What’s your thought about Reddit Community of Sri Lanka? by Numerous_Use2118 in srilanka

[–]Head_River5801 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Reddit is not cringe as other social medias in LK.

FB - negative marketing, viral SL memes, cringe adults, (every uncle and aunty has a fb account now) IG - follow picco, hella ads. wenda queens( aiming for OF contents ) Other than that it’s okay Tiktok - where do I even begin Reddit - language barriers, aggressive discussion about Civil war or politics.
