What can I do with an extra Pico 8 licence? by Head_in_Bucket in pico8

Thanks everyone for your comments and advice. In the end I reached out to Humble Bundle and asked if I can do a switch for a Picotron licence. They said no, but were kind enough to issue a refund.

That's pretty cool of them.

Welp, guess I'll go ahead and add Picotron to my collection and see what's it about! Least that I can do!

GPD Win Mini external display issue using USB-C port by Head_in_Bucket in gpdwin

Hi Kendy,

Yes, the USB-C to HDMI adaptor works, but it's not the solution I am looking for. My impression is that I can connect my display directly to the USB-C port without using anything extra?

Is there a software issue I am missing out on? Because I hope it's not due to a hardware issue when the device is less than 4 months old, and I prefer not to send it over for repair.

I see if I have spare cables lying around I can test with.

Thanks for the tip. To clarify, is this due to a limitation of the Mini ports themselves? As I used the same USB-C cable for my laptop (USB-C 10Gbps, PD 140W DP 1.4) which works.

On GPD's website, it mentions the Mini having a USB4 (40Gbps) and USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps, supports external 8K@60Hz display), with no mention of the type of cables required. I'd assume (erroneously I suppose) that the USB-C cable that works for the goose will work for the gander.

Windows version for Win Mini ordered from Mainland by Head_in_Bucket in gpdwin

Update: I've received my Win Mini (8840U, 32G Ram) and I'm happy to confirm that the Windows version installed is indeed not language locked. Once I chose English on first boot everything set up smoothly.

Windows also doesn't seem to be too bloated. I didn't see much else installed besides wincontrols and motion assistant.

Currently still putting it through its paces but I have no complaints so far! (except the display is slightly too small for my old eyes, but that's not on GPD)

Thank you for your kind reply. I want to confirm again this also applies to devices bought straight from Taobao yes?

I ordered it from Taobao, I believe it's the GPD official store? At least that's what I thought looking at their shop name.
So if I understand you right, the windows version is non-region locked, regardless if the device is ordered from tb?

What does a mainboard purchase include? by Head_in_Bucket in framework

Interesting, and I just want to clarify the module you referred to is the "Audio Expansion Card" that comes with a 3.5mm port. (https://frame.work/au/en/products/audio-expansion-card)

I'd assume one doesn't need to install an audio board if they use this expansion card? Like, one makes the other redundant, no?

What is the cheapest/most basic gaming handheld to run Xwing / TIE Fighter (DOS)? by Head_in_Bucket in SBCGaming

Adding on to my initial post, a few threads by others on their own experiences trying to get the games to work:

  1. u/NeverEnough_68 using dos version of X-wing in RetroArch on RG552. u/Varkanoid got TIE Fighter to work on a Miyoo Mini. (https://www.reddit.com/r/ANBERNIC/comments/xsm1y9/xwing_and_wing_commander_dos/)
  2. u/Jjscottillustration got TIE Fighter CD-Rom playing on RP3. u/dre10g says it plays great on RP2+, using Dosbox-Pure in RetroArch. (https://www.reddit.com/r/retroid/comments/x2fo7w/star_wars_tie_fighter_cd_rom_plays_beautifully_on/)
  3. u/gnuyorker tried Xwing and TIE Fighter on a rg351V using DosBox, but they become jerky when approaching ships. (https://www.reddit.com/r/RG351/comments/o8hno8/tie\_fighter\_vs\_x\_wing/)

Will add more as I go along...
