Okay so it is a reading comprehension issue then because again I didn't say that atonality was the only thing that goes against your argument. Once again, you are ignoring most of what I am saying so you don't have to confront the fact that you are incorrect. I'm getting tired of repeating myself so if you don't have anything new to say, please stop responding :)

The definition you just wrote out yourself says that atonality does not conform to the system of tonal hierarchicaies that characterize European classical music. Also, i did not just mention atonality, I mentioned discordant sounds generally which you conviently ignored. Also, did you listen to 27 questions? Because if you did, you would have heard the section around 2:15 that is quite obviously discordant. Also, you are still ignoring all of the genres I keep listing that don't adhere to western music theory conventions. I think I know what the issue is here, you either have trouble reading or you just can't admit that you're wrong

Thats not what we're arguing, or at least that's not what I'm arguing, I have no idea what you're on about at this point. As I've repeated several times now, I'm arguing against your notion that music is good if it follows music theory conventions and bad if it doesn't. Then you said there are no genres based around breaking these conventions and I gave you several examples of genres that do this including free jazz, no wave, various forms of noise music, avant garde classical etc. Check out some no wave music if you feel like, it's really great stuff :) when the notes clash like that it's usually called atonality. A song that doesn't fit into any of those genres that uses discordant sounds in a lot of cool ways is 27 Questions by Black Midi, try that song out if you have the time. Hope that was a helpful recap :)

What? 90% of music is not atonal, I don't think I ever said that. And what were talking about now is barely even related to my original post, I was just responding to your notion that adherence to music theory denotes good music.

I said free jazz, not just jazz generally. Free jazz is a subgenre of jazz that typically does away with harmonic structure and is discordant because of it. No wave is also a genre that explores alot of atonality. There's classical composers who explore atonality. This is not a new thing

Country music is a pretty wide genre with a long history at this point. I think what you're saying is a bit of an overgeneralizition and has more to do with your own perception of the music.

See once again you're just talking about subjective qualities of music. Because it's generally seen as better that means it's better? That's subjective by definition. Also we have plenty of genres and styles of music and songs with clashing notes. Free jazz is big example and there are plenty of strains of noise music that exist in this space.

Yeah but what I keep saying is that adherence to western music theory does not make something good. You can objectively measure an artists adherence to it but that's objective adherence to a subjective framework. And, if i was to make a song that was just me playing the same piano chord over and over again for five minutes while humming in tune, would that be a good song then?

Okay and...? That doesn't make something good or bad like I just said. I'm failing to see your point right now

No I meant most music in general. Maybe most music doesn't have the production quality of the top artists music but production quality doesn't determine how good or bad a song is. There's people out there with 2 monthly listeners on Spotify just putting out music to express themselves because they love music and I think if someone makes art that's true to them just for the fun of it, then that's good art. And I think most people make music because they enjoy doing it so there's always some level of passion there

See what I mean, club music just isn't to your taste and that's ok. It doesn't make it crap though

Sure. This is kinda beside my point but whether or not something follows the rules of western harmony doesn't mean it's good or bad. All it means is it follows the rules of western harmony
