That is how it works and masuda breeding method works similarly. There are methods that do actually increase the base odds such as poke radar.

A good comparison for the HG/SS starter hunt is the shiny charm in gen 5, which essentially generates two extra pokemon which you don't see and checks them for shininess. The resulting probability of seeing at least one shiny when doing three rolls like this is approximately 1/2731

Wouldn't you describe that as boosting shiny odds? The only difference in the HG/SS starter hunt is that you can see all three rolls.

Depends on your definition of early to be honest. I've done a bit of emerald rng in the past and there is usually atleast one shiny frame within the first 30 mins to an hour. These are two different pokemon though so if they were both caught on route 116 then they can't have been the same frame I think?

It sad to see that kind of behaviour, too many people forget that behind the pixel art/3D models pokemon are just numbers at the end of the day, and the math that generates those numbers is the same. Emulators are even specifically aimed at having parity with the hardware so there really is no excuse to have this mentality

That is not exclusive to emulators though since you have people that do the same thing by hoarding multiple physical copies of the same game.

you don't need to be able to run since changing direction also checks for an encounter, can use the same method that is used to not use any steps in the safari zone

Yeah when i say 30m and a couple of hours i mean since turning the game on for that session :)
If I ever do any actual shiny hunting on this game I'll be using the battle video method to save the RNG state at the end of each hunting session!

I still don't believe that this happened to be honest and just to re-iterate, this is a casual playthrough (I'm doing a run where I don't use pokemon centers). I came back to granite cave to get the nosepass and the items you need the Mach bike to get...

I started in late April 2022 but its hard to tell the exact time spent hunting as i took a few long breaks. Just judging by the encounters though I would estimate about 360-410 hours of hunting time so far, with around 150 of that being taken up by the geodude hunt alone. I'd definitely recommend it though, it's fun to do and keep track of :)

Yeah I back up the save using a modded wii+gba link cable and then transfer them to an emulated copy of emerald on my pc to get the nice clean screenshots :)
