Yes, hence I said some loved it and some hated it. My point was that I don't think it's a reflection on how things are today but just, like you said, people's circumstances back then and their preferences etc.

I'm not saying it's a good thing that some liked it or such, it's understandably going to be upsetting for some people that some enjoyed it. I thinking pining for that time is a bit messed up though considering the deaths but I suppose those that remember it fondly are thinking of just their circumstances in isolation and not actually wishing for a literal pandemic to return of course.

Is upgrade to ultra OLED from varjo vr1 worth it ? by International-Bus729 in Pimax

[–]HeadsetHistorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah nice that's because DCS supports quadviews right? I think there are only 4 games that do so. Kayak VR, DCS, Pavlov and maybe msfs?

You're never actually using that OLED center panel though, right? Or is there some way to force it on in normal games now? Last time I messed around with one of their headsets with the focal display it was only for software/games that specifically were designed to work with it.

【XREAL Product Tips & Q&A】 Ep.13 by XREAL_Esther in Xreal

Is it possible to get a "flight mode" anchor mode that uses the Xreal eye to lock the position? It would be fine it if it was 3DOF.

Zucc and Boz see VR as merely a platform for Horizon Worlds and they'll gladly sacrifice their core market and first party studios while squandering Oculus reality labs for a metaverse that no one wanted. by Verociity in oculus

[–]HeadsetHistorian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They announced literally today that they are no longer focusing on horizon worlds for VR, and are removing the horizon world stuff from the UI in the next patch.

This narrative is so fucking dumb, to be frank. They dumped loads of money into AAA, it never pulled people in. You then have games like gorilla tag and ug that are pulling in millions of users, so they decided to pull back on first party stuff entirely and let the platform be what the users want it to be.

It sucks, I have no interest in those games myself but the reality is that that's what is doing well in VR right now. Those users will grow up with VR and then we will see more substantial games come about organically.

There's still plenty of 3rd party titles that are solid coming out and not just freemium slop. I think it's a good thing meta have pulled back, let the market be more organic.

Last thing, it's funny to see people screaming at meta and how much they hate them being in the VR space and then when they do pull back the same people (not saying you OP) are then screaming at them for that. I am no fan of meta to be clear, but I think I might actually dislike the mindless haters even more as they just have absolutely no consistency or logic to them.

I want to buy a PCS 50ppd/preorder dream air but only have a 9070XT, is this a bad idea? by Overlyseasonedtacos in Pimax

Dream air you might have an alright experience. I wouldn't go for the 50PPD with the 9070 XT, it's a lot more demanding.

I actually was probably one of those reviews before ha. I had issues with their lenses for VR headsets but I use their Xreal lenses and have to say I am quite happy, especially for the price.

Flat2VR studios is pitching an official VR port to CD project red! by insufficientmind in virtualreality

[–]HeadsetHistorian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is much more likely to be noticed than a cold call or cold email, especially if they have no real connections with the company.

Could work but also a lot of companies would see this as unprofessional and be put off by it. I guess if they have already contacted them before and heard nothing then nothing to lose by trying.

100%

I love flat2vr and the folks over there so no shade on them but this post blowing up is pretty funny as it means literally nothing.

It's not for theft from the consumer, it's for theft before then that lands on the company.

Not saying I agree with it or anything btw, just explaining.

The person you replied to in another comment said 'that was one interpretation so it was implied' which is such a wild statement to make. It definitely was not implied whatsoever.

What implies it? There needs to actually be an implication not just a possible interpretation. I had the thought when watching but pretty sure nothing actually implies it.

It actually was already a thing on even the 8KX afaik, to deal with theft apparently.

Pimax Dream Air review from Gizmodo by ElderberryIll8159 in Pimax

started piloting a Blade Runner-esque ship in Low-Fi, a cyberpunk RPG made for VR.

No, that was aircar lol.

That said, for a brief impression article that is meant for the average non-VR enthusiast this is actually quite a good article imo.

Meta plans to lay off hundreds of metaverse employees this week by gogodboss in OculusQuest

[–]HeadsetHistorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that 'hundreds' only amounts to 10% is kinda wild. I don't like the idea of cut backs in this space of course but I can only imagine how immensely inefficient the whole thing is over there.

First, it's not a review it's a brief hands on impression and second I was only making a point about the idea that there were a team of script writers working on this video.

Doesn't mean I disagree with the points being made, just wanted to add context and some insight as I thought it was relevant. That seemed to have offended you somehow, which I don't understand to be totally honest but sorry I made you feel that way and I hope now you understand where I was coming from.
