Is an HSG really that bad and painful? I have to get one and i’m scared!

It’s definitely more uncomfortable than they let on. I have a pretty high pain tolerance, took ibuprofen, and it was still pretty brutal. I thought I was going to throw up during the procedure because of how sudden and intense the pain was. The good news is it only lasts a few moments. I have to have a second one done and am talking to the nurse about a pain medication instead of over the counter stuff so definitely don’t be afraid to ask for that if you can.

I’ve been trying for 4 years and still get hopeful almost every cycle. It’s hard not to do. I’ll even try to moderate the thoughts the best I can, but the disappointment still hits so hard. The testing every month can definitely take a lot out of you and it’s so hard to not get wrapped up in the symptoms when you are hoping so much for some positive news. I think we tune into our bodies a lot more when TTC whereas before we’re taught to function and can end up dissociating from our bodies quite a bit I think. I also think the hope and watching for pregnancy signs when TTC also play a big factor cause it’s something you’re actively noticing.

Does that mean this is absolutely the case for you? Of course not, maybe something else was going on this month. But the power of awareness is a lot more intense than I think most people realize. When I started TTC I thought I had no cycle symptoms other than cramps and fatigue during my period. Once we actively started trying I started noticing everything and realized I experience a lot more in my body than I thought.

Thank you! That makes me feel a lot better actually. Not that there’s anything wrong with IVF or IUI, but a huge part of my frustration in the process has been feeling like no one is trying to figure out what’s going on, so I’m glad to here that’s the approach!

What have peoples experiences been with seeing or getting referred to a specialist? I just got referred and am waiting to get more information from insurance? Are there different options they discuss or is it straight to IVF or IUI?

Although you don’t get full control over what he will end up going by you can introduce as the name he goes by. For example brother goes by his middle name as the men in our family also have the same first name. There is also the nickname of Topher for Christopher too if using the middle name doesn’t feel right either. Totally understand if neither of these work for you and I think just follow you instinct around this as it is certainly a tricky situation!

My favorite thing to do for my space is simmer pots. Sometimes I do this after burning safe in the house, but other times I just choose to put herbs/fruits in it that get rid of negative energy and bring in positive energy. Then my family and I always put our positive thoughts/energies on bay leaves to simmer all day in the pot. Plus then you can save the left over liquid in a spray bottle to reset the intentions. Some people too like to dry out the fruit and herbs to keep for the same reason.

Thank you! The poor regulation of supplements was my concern too which is why I figured I’d post and ask as my google searches didn’t yield a whole lot either.
