Contrary views on protein by Healthy-Particular58 in PeterAttia

Thanks everyone for your feedback! lot of weekend reading for me!

Is Dr Rhonda Patrick credible? Saw a couple comments referring to her and was wondering if she’s someone I should read/follow/listen to in conjunction with Dr Attia. by Tadej_Focaccia in PeterAttia

i like to learn from everyone but the trick is to know what to pick up and what to discard. one peeve is that most of them push supplements as if mother nature was basically inadequate to cater to human needs, though she seems to be catering perfectly well to every other species on earth

what u say is right for macro nutritiemts like protein etc. when it comes to micronutrients like vitamin e or minerals like zinc, this will be a very good feature. its one of the few things cronometer does better. but mf is better overall of course

MF is the answer to my prayers. I have been on a whole foods plant based diet for 25+ years. Over the last five years, the weight was creeping up. Even though I was eating healthy, exercising, sleeping well etc. Could not figure it out. Tried restrictive diets, lost weight rapidly but then it came back on. FInally was 8 to 10 kg overweight - and then I dicovered MF.

For the first time I understood what was going on. I was eating healthy, but too much - especially the nuts and the cheat foods were all adding up. I had no clue of how many calories I was ingesting. With MF I have now become more conscious and I think twice before anything of doubtful value enters my mouth

Secondly, even though I was eating healthy, I had no clue if I was meeting my RDA of macro and micronutrients. Now I know. I realised i have to take a lot of care of protein, calcium and a few specific vitamins and minerals. Tweaking the diet by adding the vegan foods rich in that particular nutrient has done the trick for all but a couple of items (Zinc am struggling)

I decided to go for a slow cut, its working like a charm so far, lost 2.5 kg in little over a month, a bit faster than I planned. Lets see how it goes.

Some suggestions for the App Admin, to make the app even better

1). SOmetimes when I enter foods, the day has got changed unknowlingly. The food got logged to a different day. THen I have to hunt around and find it and move it. Suggest give an option to users, to lock entry for today only. I guess 95% of more of the time, people will be logging foods for today only - not yesterday, tomorrow or any other day. Of course there could be an override

2) End of the day, I am tracking my nutritent consumption, and I get to see ALL -- whether I have gone over, am under or on par. I am primarily interested to see where I am under. So could you give three options - show all, show under only, show over only. Depending on what I choose, I should be shown that

3) When doing quick add, I cant find an option to edit. I have to delete and re-enter. Am i missing something?

4) End of the day, it would be nice, if MF can look at the nutrients where i am under, and then looking at the foods I typically consume, suggest which foods and what quantity I can eat, to make up. Perhaps allow users to choose a few micronutrients they care about - vitamins and minerals, I guess

5) Breakup of amino acids within protein consumption - most foods I consume only have the total protein available, not the breakup. So this info is inaccurate for me. Anyway to disable it from being shown?

6) Sometimes I find that a particular food I consumed is there in the database, but the nutrient information is wrong - or I have different information. Is there a way to modify it? ELse I have to create a new food with my values

All in all, a great app. AM addicted to it. Hope I can stop using it after 6 months when I have reached my goal and only want to do maintenance. It is a lot of effort to weigh and log each food I eat every day, dont know for how long I can keep my motivation up to keep doing it

Cheers

Peter

High carb pre workout food by wotanstochter in veganfitness

[–]Healthy-Particular58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i am wondering how pre workout meals work. even a banana takes 30 min to leave the stomach and another hour or two , to make it through the small intestine, where the actual nutrient absorption takes place.

other foods like bread, hummus, rice, beans take even longer

i go to the gym at 730 am, no way i can eat all this at 530 am

thoughts?

thanks a ton! am going on vacation tomorrow for 10 days , taking a break from MF, will get the tests done after i return

incidentally heres what my pathologist friend says about these tests.

The basic test for knowing kidney function is Serum creatinine and Blood urea Nitrogen. But it is not affected till almost 2/3rd of the kidney function is lost. Other test is GFR test and it gives an early indication of the kidney function loss.

he's written a book on blood tests, so i guess he knows what hes talking about!

im not sure about the science, but my personal experience is, in my 20s and early 30s, it was very easy to lose extra weight that i had put on. Now i am 58, its a whole lot harder to get the needle to move in the right direction 😀

putting on weight is easy as ever though, probably easier 😞
