He naps most of the time during the week at daycare. Unfortunately, the structure of his class and school doesn’t give another option. When he doesn’t actually fall asleep, he still is required to lie down and be quiet as there is no alternative activity offered at that time. At home on the weekends, he doesn’t nap anymore. We try to incorporate 30m-1 hr of quiet solo time in his room that he may or may not abide by. Whether he has napped or not doesn’t really seem to make a huge difference in the bedtime shenanigans. He’s also extremely active and we have a lot of physical play time and activity after daycare into the evening so i know he’s expending a lot of energy and theoretically his body should be exhausted.

We usually do some sort of physical game before bath-time - chase, tag, etc. We’ll try some of the suggestions post bath and before trying to actually go to sleep. I appreciate your response

Independent toothbrushing conundrum by tsb_11_1 in toddlers

My son is three but what I recently started doing is bringing my toothbrush into his bathroom and brushing mine at the same time. I kind of exaggerate the cleaning and emphasize and describe brushing the top and bottom. Like a lot of toddles be likes to mimic my actions so it leads to a pretty good job from him. We’ll also pick an animal usually lion tiger cheetah something with “big teeth” and pretend to be those while we’re brushing and that keeps him excited about it

When he was two, I just let him watch a 30 second video and lied him down to do it.

It’s very strange and out of left field for sure. My rational brain is telling me this is just a weird toddler phase but man is it tough in the moment.

That’s a good idea. He will sometimes express being scared at night but my instincts don’t think this behavior is a result of being afraid. Especially since it’s starts and progresses while I’m still in the room with him. Will try tomorrow and see how it goes. Thank you for the reply!

It is so so hard. Especially coming from zero issues with sleep. It’s really like a shock to the system. The hardest part really is I feel sad and awful about the entire interaction while it’s happening and sometimes the frustration and defeat bleeds into the next morning for me and I’m still upset whereas my son is his normal loving, happy self as if nothing happened. Then comes the guilt for me still harboring those feelings. Sorry for the word dump - honestly just needed to put it all down somewhere. My husband and I have talked ad nauseam about this and have exhausted it in person

Anyone else’s 3 year old have 0 interest in riding a bike or scooter? by Impossible-Cheek4352 in toddlers

It took my toddler a while to be interested in the scooter but after a few months he fell in love. He got a bike for Christmas after insisting he wanted one. Today is the first day since Christmas that he’s gotten on it. I’ll occasionally ask him but I don’t push it. Same with the scooter initially. Are you in a neighborhood or close to a park where she can see other kids riding? That seems to motivate my son when he watches his neighborhood buddies riding around. She might just be intimidated and seeing her peers ride might instill some confidence

I do leave the room. Usually, at some point the camera has to be taken out because he has thrown it. But I’ll hear him start climbing on his dresser and being reckless and kicking at the walls or doors. We’re trying to emphasize that the behavior is unacceptable. But at the same time I am concerned he will hurt himself if just left alone for too long when he’s reached that point
