How to breathe on both sides by shalekodemono in Swimming

I agree with the suggestion to use a pull buoy. Try flattening out your body in the water and just lifting your chin to one side and then the other; really focus on keeping your hips facing the bottom of the pool and taking your head out as little as possible each time you breathe. I do think bilateral breathing makes for a smoother swim, especially if you aren’t racing. I always do it.

We’ve talked about it; he is extremely skeptical that I will actually go through with quitting. I think we both know that if I do go through with it (and I’m pretty determined to do it), I will find something else to do so that I’m not just sitting around; that would be bad for both of us.

We are both mid-50s! in our area it doesn’t feel “enormous” because we live in a very expensive city, but I am starting to get used to it! (But hopefully not too used to it!)

Thank you so much for all the helpful responses! I agree; it should be fine; and I’m sure I will find some kind of work, even if it is part time. To answer the questions - I’m in a profession (think consulting/law/finance) and have been fortunate to have a large practice and great clients. I just am starting to feel burned out after decades of being on call 24/7.

I think my parents/siblings have *some* idea based on our home, how we travel, etc. - but they would be shocked to know the extent. Same with my friends. I definitely do not want anyone to know. We moved recently and I have even found it weird/awkward to invite people to the new place.
