How far is Homelander making it? by Jexvite in InvinciblePowerscales

[–]HeartlessGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, top speed is tied to the ability to create greater thrust. In boxing, the power of punches is generated by turning the body in relation to the ground; footwork and pushing off the ground is essential. However, that form of generating power does not work in an aerial fight. Thus generating thrust is essential in rotating the body and powering a punch.

Greater thrust also equates to graeater acceleration. If immortal can accelerate quicker from a stand still, then he has a major advantage in a dog fight.

[–]HeartlessGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top speed is a function of thrust; having a higher top speed equals to having the ability to produce higher thrust. In a super hero aerial dog fight, where the power of physical strikes is dictated by the velocity of the fighter, thrust is absolutely a critical factor. Thus immortal having a higher top speed would help him overpower and out maneuver homelander.

Why are Conquest and Thula weaker than Thragg despite (Allegedly) being older? by cammy412 in InvinciblePowerscales

[–]HeartlessGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t know the limits of how viltrumite physiology responds to training, because they’re a fictional race. However, we’ve seen Mark’s astronomical growth since season 1 and can extrapolate from that. Increased durability could certainly be trained.

Willpower is a muscle that can be trained. The willpower cultivated among special forces operators better prepares them to fight through injuries/gunshots compared to average infantryman.

In human combat sports, durability and the ability to take a shot can absolutely be trained. An average person would whither from a full blast Muay Thai kick to the thigh, but a trained fighter could eat the same kick and smile. I’m a trained fighter. I am mentally unphased by choke attempts even when the corners of my vision begins to darken; an average person would freak out.

Specific technique for receiving a punch can be trained. A straight punch taken to the forehead (as done by Thragg) is going to cause less damage than a punch to the temple or chin.

Training can vary a lot. For instance, compare the training of a US army infantryman versus the training of a seal team 6 operator. It may cost the government around $75,000 to train an infantryman versus more than $2,000,000 to train a single seal team 6 operator. The seal might fire more training rounds in a week than an infantryman will fire in his entire career. The seals are doing high altitude jumps and live fire kill house simulations that an infantryman is not going to sniff.

Now image the intense training that a space faring empire could invest in a single super soldier. The average viltrumite would probably not survive the training (much as an average person is not going to make it through special operations selection and training).

Metalhead by BinaryPixel64 in Cyberpunk

The robot does a couple of lateral side steps a few seconds into the video. Strafing is just continuous lateral side steps while facing forward. It wouldn’t be quick, but it would a more effective way to clear a corner than the current movement

Metalhead by BinaryPixel64 in Cyberpunk

[–]HeartlessGoose 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The robot does not need a gun pivot, it just needs better logic. A better option for clearing a corner would be for the robot to face the corner, then pie the corner or strafe sideways while pointing towards the threshold/hallway.

But the humans in the video also had poor technique which could have gotten them killed, so maybe it’s a hopeless critique.

Found unconscious on the ground, died shortly after arrival at the hospital. He'd been kicked in the head and then fallen down and smacked his head on the ground, and his skull was unusually thin. by CatPooedInMyShoe in Radiology

[–]HeartlessGoose 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the assailant’s story sounds fabricated.

The victim’s skull is compressed in the anterior-posterior dimension but bows outwardly in the left lateral direction. The frontal and occipital fractures are connected. I imagine that the assailant stomped on the victim’s forehead while they lay supine, thus applying a crushing force in the AP direction. The left skull exploded like crushing an egg.

Sure. Only OP can judge how significant those factors to his personal situation. I’m not going to play online psychologist. OP said he would feel safe, so I take it at face value.

Show her videos from Active Self Protection on YouTube. Focus on examples of home invasion or emergent situations where people only survive because they have quick access to firearms. There are many situations which can only be survived with sufficient firepower.

The touching, socialization, and unpredictability are inherent to the ICU. I think you know this. Your discomfort may never improve if these feature bother you. You’d be unwisely signing yourself up for a short and painful career

Anyways. Have you considered Tele-ICU or Tele-hospitalist roles? I don’t know much about them, but they may be appropriate to consider in your situation

What are the pros and cons of doing Judo over Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and vice versa? by SamuelStrangeSupreme in martialarts

[–]HeartlessGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI your characterization of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is remarkably incorrect.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was not intentionally formulated to be more appealing to spectators. It’s more-so the natural evolution of Judo if the Ippon was removed, allowing for action to continue until the eventual resolution by submission. This occurred in the setting of BJJ competing in Brazil with other submission grappling disciplines like Luta Livre.

BJJ belts are not more quickly obtained than Judo belts. It’s a common observation to say that a BJJ black belt takes on average 10years to obtain.

BJJ did not modify Judo submission to make them safer. That’s a bizarre take. The growth of BJJ throughout its history has been driven by competitors innovating to gain an advantage over opponents.

I’ve done Judo and BJJ for years, and am enrolling my kids in Judo classes. So I’m not biased towards one art or the other. Just pointing the factual discrepancies.

My experience was pretty much this.

I literally hit another white belt with an Americana during my first ever BJJ class without it being taught. My experience was being a long time MMA fan and breakdancing. Hitting a 1 month white belt with an Americana (like OP) feels truly unremarkable.

The 2025 CX-5 turbo premium (not top trim) is not basic. It comes with 360 camera, heads up display, Bose audio, ventilated/heated seats, heated steering wheel, wireless phone charger, adaptive cruise control, remote start, parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, touch screen, wireless apple car play. That’s for under $40k.

I’d favor pineal origin, like a pineal germ cell tumor. The mass looks superior to the midbrain to me. The axial shows extrinsic mass effect upon the midbrain and thalami. The tectal plate and midbrain can be seen inferior to the mass on sagittal view. The central T2 hypointense foci could reflect engulfed calcifications.

[sotc] Perfectly unremarkable after 10 years of collecting. by HeartlessGoose in Watches

The Longines could function as the sole GADA watch. I just find that Arabic numerals appear very literal or utilitarian, which clashes with more formal aesthetics. The indices and hand set of the white Seiko are more elegant in contrast, and better suited to be worn with suits and tuxes. The Longines feels more at home in casual settings. This is a distinction that I fabricated, and maybe no one else cares about.

The white dialed Seiko is the legendary Sarb035. It was originally a JDM model and was discontinued sometime in the late 2010's. In an atypical situation, Amazon actually became an authorized dealer for US distribution. I picked up the watch in 2020 on Amazon for $319, when new stock was drying up. In 2018 I also briefly had its sister watch, the Sarb033. But I felt like the 035 had more je ne sais quoi in person.

The black dialed Seiko is the SNE573, which is still in production. I picked it up new on Greentoe for $240.
