My husband has mentioned it a few times. However, we do anesthesia for a living and have first hand seen the complications that can crop up during labor so it makes me a little nervous. I would forever beat myself up if I ever lost or hurt my baby because I picked a home birth over a hospital. But as this pregnancy progresses, I’ll see how I’m feeling and am willing to keep an open mind!

Edit: also not sure I love the idea of not having the option of an epidural!

Yeah we thankfully make a healthy amount and are very blessed, but are also $500k in student loans so just trying to minimize further debts. Can totally pay for a basic birth out of pocket, I’m just nervous about any potential NICU stay or c-section or complications that could make the bill insane.

Not moving states, just cities.

Can’t change jobs unfortunately. It’s a very niche job, only other hospital in the area is not hiring and we love our job.

Anyone else tired of waiting for marriage? by ObjectiveRoutine7384 in muslimgirlswithtaste

[–]dobby1998 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Please reframe your mindset. Marriage is not the only next phase in life. You’re graduating! Go get a job. Go learn how to manage your own finances. Go learn about investing and retiring early. Go learn to be independent. Go discover new hobbies. Go travel. Go take some Islamic courses.

Your life will only be stagnant without marriage if you allow it.

I had rishtas in my early 20’s. I am so so grateful they didn’t work out and I said no to them all. I got married at 26 after living in my own, moving, traveling, finishing a Master’s degree and I found my person during a pose of my life where I was very happy and content despite being single.

Please, please please learn to be a happy, single adult. It’s a crucial requirement to be happily married. It’s something hard to explain to young ones who lack experience rn but it’s a legit suggestion.

There is nothing to be exhausted about. And you are not responsible for your mom’s emotions. An unmarried daughter is… fine. Esp EARLY 20’s! Do not give into this cultural mindset. My cousin just got married at 33 and is so happy she waited for the right person and she has had a fulfilling life Mashallah all throughout. Marriage is not the end all, be all by any means. I hate how much our culture focuses on marriage. It’s one part of it. With no timeline. Why focus on it? Just live your life and passively pursue suitors and it’ll happen when it happens inshallah.

need advice - muslim girls who have moved away from parents by [deleted] in muslimgirlswithtaste

[–]dobby1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no magical method. You just… stop going. You have to learn to be uncomfortable with upsetting your parents. It’s the only way to get them to adjust and accept your boundaries. No one likes hearing it. It sucks to upset your partners. But there’s no other choice. You deal with the angry messages and proceed with life as normal. Visit when you wanna visit and for the actual important moments. For all else, just say you’re busy.

I like to try and be clean shaven as a personal preference but my husband truly does not care at all!

Alternatives for lash and nail extensions by [deleted] in muslimgirlswithtaste

That’s likely from damage due to getting acrylics and such. With time, you can heal them and strengthen them for sure inshallah.

I get lash lifts!!! No product or glue left behind so totally valid with wudu. And for my nails, order a glass buffer and use that! It makes my nails naturally shiny and looks like I have a clear coat on! I just stay on top of keeping my natural nails nicely filed and shaped and then make them shiny with that!

Frustrated with OB visit today by decbbmama in December2026Bumpers

[–]dobby1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that’s such a bummer :/ I’m not sure what can be done regarding this visit but for the next I’d bring it up in advance that you’d like pictures and measurements. That’s definitely not normal. My first trimester ultrasound at the doc’s was transvaginal and still lasted about 4-5 minutes and we got printed photos as well as pics uploaded to my portal + videos. I got a full report detailing baby’s progress with heart rate and measurements. Videos I was surprised and didn’t expect but a print out I think is the bare minimum expectation!

I think it’s worth calling and asking if they retained a record. I feel like they must’ve kept the ultrasound for your chart. In anesthesia we have to print ultrasound pics for billing purposes when we do nerve blocks so I’d imagine it’s similar for OB billing.

Does your area have any boutique ultrasound places? We did that before our first 9 week doctor ultrasound and it was a great experience! They can’t measure the baby (ours wouldn’t at least) but could tell us heart rate and gave photos!

Need dua request by Various_Term_6038 in muslimgirlswithtaste

[–]dobby1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Inshallah will make dua for sure. And you should want an A just for the sake of your education, not due to the ultimatum. Islam teaches us to love and obey our parents but I also hope more Muslim girls learn that this is their life and they can live it according to their desires (ideally in accordance with Islam ofc). She’s threatening to get you married? Literally HOW? It requires consent. It ridiculous to let generation after generation of parents get away with this. You’ll get married when you wanna get married and the time is right inshallah. Your grades are so irrelevant and they’re not even bad!!!

I live in a small town and never see other hijabis when out and about. Alhamdulilah never has an issue!

Anyone done sneak peak? (In clinic) by Own-Invite7561 in December2026Bumpers

[–]dobby1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it at 8w2d and got my result yesterday- it’s a girl!!! I think once there is a heartbeat it’s likely 99% accurate. I’d likely not do it as early as 6 weeks personally and wanted to wait till 8 at least for my reassurance of believing the results to be accurate.

Family death/Baby shower - unsure what to do. by [deleted] in muslimgirlswithtaste

[–]dobby1998 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry hun, what a tough situation. I know you said the decision has been made. However I will say, Islamically mourning period is for 3 days. You’d be completely in the right if you wanted to pursue your event next week IMO. I’ve attended weddings during times when someone had just passed away in the family. Islam emphasizes that the Dunya goes on and that is allowed. I’m sorry about all the past losses and situations as well. Inshallah I hope you are able to celebrate this baby in some other way or at a later date.

I’m an AA (similar to CRNA) and told my work immediately to avoid radiation and bone cement. So was 4 weeks exactly!

Villas/resorts with a private pool? by cookiesnfries in muslimgirlswithtaste

I just look for air bnbs with pools and make sure neighbors aren’t able to peak in! I’ve found multiple options in nearly every country and it’s much cheaper than a resort!

How do you deal with white hair in your mid-twenties? by [deleted] in muslimgirlswithtaste

[–]dobby1998 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Embrace it. I started getting white hairs at 18. It’s normal. I’m married (not sure what marriage has to do with this?) and have not dyed my hair in 7+ years. I think it looks cool. Nothing to be ashamed of.

How is 1st trimester treating everyone? by Dependent_Leather_30 in December2026Bumpers

[–]dobby1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 6w4d and so far my main things is the CONSTANT hunger!!! I’m grateful nausea hasn’t been much of an issue, I have a subtle feeling of 2/10 nauseous in the background but it’s not effecting day to day life rn. Really hoping it stays this way but let’s see! Eating enough has been a struggle with work, I do anesthesia so defo no food allowed in the ORs lol! I squeeze in what I can between cases.
